At what age did you or your relatives realize you should not be turning on that table saw in your shop any longer....feel like it's about to happen for me.

My cousin quit using his after he cut his fingers off a second time.
First time wasn't bad, just a lil bit off the tip. Second time the blade went through 3 fingers on his left hand, they had to reattach them without the knuckles so his fingers won't bend. They did a surgery and broke his fingers and had them set in a bend so he can grab stuff. He never remembers that his fingers are bent when he points at something so I can never tell WTF he is talking about.

I ask myself the same question when I pull out the chainsaw or climb on a roof.

To the OP:
I have thought about that too, even though I am in my mid-40's and in good shape, I have had two major heart surgeries and I am on warfarin so getting cut is definitely something I have to worry more about. I hope I have a good 15 - 20 years left in me, so many projects I want to try my hands at.

All tools that spin are inherently dangerous. Learn how to operate the tools safely without getting your fingers near the blade. One moment of misjudgment and you're in trouble. If you don't have the ability to 100% focus when working around tools, then you should work on improving your ability to focus.

I invested in some Micro jig blocks or use an old silicone grout float to push material through my table saw or router table. Keep all my saw blades and router bits clean and stored to keep the edges sharp, never a good idea to try to force material through a dull tool. Also got a neat thin-rip jig for my table saw, cut slices of material on the non-fence side of the table saw without risk of it being kicked back as much.

I'm closing in on 73 in 2 months and still work in my shop around all my power tools as I have been for the past 35 years since I acquired most of them.
Knock wood as I still have all my limbs in tact although I've had a scare that I can vividly recall. I was cutting 1" x 3/4" pieces of wood on my table saw and using the fence as my cut width on the 3/4" side and it violently kicked back that piece of wood right past my right side and it slammed into a wall across the shop hard enough to puncture the 1/2" sheetrock and slam into the inside of the exterior wall. If I would have caught that in my side, it would have left a mark I'd probably still be carrying around.
Over the years I've built more things than I can remember for myself, family and other people. I really don't use my shop much for about 4 months out of the year when it's the hottest-----June-September since I have no A/C and just rely on box fans to keep some air moving.

Good pedestal fan is a game changer, I have an industrial 20" that moves a good bit of air. A 30" fan would be quieter and move even more but much harder to move out of my storage room.
