Florida's offense plays into the LSU defense's hands

Florida wants to do 2 things: smack you in the mouth with Jaden Baugh and catch you off balance with play action. LSU has proved to be elite against the run (1.9 yards per attempt), and without that piece, the play action game isn't terribly effective if we aren't having to cheat Haulcy and Cooley into the box.
Lagway is a great talent, but not sure if he has the patience or the experience to be able to nickel and dime us all day. He's always hunting for the big play, and I don't see him being able to stand back there hunting a deep ball with the pass rush we have - it's going to result in sacks and forced throws.
Last year, Florida saw their most efficient game on the ground all season with 6.6 yards per carry. Lagway only completed 50% of his throws, but his 13 completions went for an average of 17 yards - lots of explosives. Unless the dam busts in this front 7 on Saturday, I'm not seeing how Florida's offense has that same success this week.

I trust his defense too but you sound like you have a lot of confidence.

It’s gonna be a dog fight. Florida always plays us tough. Need Nuss to have a better game and be able to run the football.

Lagway is pretty damn good

Ahh someone that actually gets it

I see our defense getting 2 INT's

He’s looked like shite so far this season. He was injured all offseason and likely still isn’t 100%. Very out of sync.

This will be the same all season. If Nuss doesn’t turn it over we will be very good. If we add a good running game we will be great.

The LSU defense is going to beat the brakes off of this high school offense.

Great take, think I could get an autograph?

I hope so - but know they will make adjustments and know this is not 2003 anymore the days of defenses dominating all season are over, with the rules ever evolving to help the offenses and schemes devised to maximize those advantages even the best defenses are going to have a couple of games where the offense gets the better of them.
Also, I always found when a team is in a toxic environment - and believe me the Gators are right now, the best thing is to get away from home and play on the road.
It's a game we should win I think, but it's a game that still scares me. They sacked Nuss like 7 times or something last year and don't think if DJ is playing center they ain't coming up that middle gap all night again.

quote:I know we always overinflate these things, but I wonder how much Pyburn's familiarity with the offense and personnel comes into place? He practiced against that offense for 3 years (Rob Sale as OC), and against Lagway for one. Gotta think he picked up on some tendencies of theirs (verbage, signals, when Lagway might tuck and run). Though I know FL coaches aren't stupid, there will probably be some wrinkles.

Fans have an important role this weekend. Leave your kids at home and stay the whole game.

The problem is that LSU's offense likewise plays into Florida's defensive hands. Florida could not contain Byrum Brown (USF QB) scrambling for first downs and designed QB runs, which held back Florida's pass rushers (the strength of Florida's defense) and allowed USF to move the ball.
Nussmeier has obviously shown that he will not scramble upfield, much less keep the ball on the zone read. LSU will miss Josh Williams in this game. He was a warrior in Gainesville last year, while Florida's defensive line teed off on our line and Nussmeier.

I don’t see a matchup we don’t have the advantage in.
This should be a blowout

8 carries
1 yard
That's a guy who ran for 463 yards and 7 touchdowns a year ago.

There have been some LSU stinkers, but last years UF game has to be in the top 5. Hard to unsee.
