Saying it is rightfully his...

This is a pretty cool ending to the story. Apparently this meeting took place a couple of years ago and only recently came to light.....

I coulda won a Big Mac with a gold medal from USA in men's boxing.

Instead I had to settle for a small fry due to the silver medal.

I don't know how to feel about this. I guess it is great that he is doing the right thing now. But the joy of the moment of winning a Gold medal was forever stolen from Jones.

I wonder if the 1972 Soviet Basketball Team is listening?

The judging of that fight enraged me even as a kid. Roy handled it with more class than 99% of others probably would have.

Time is a flat circle.

I wonder how that (relative) loss spurned him on for the rest of his career?

Or the Gumps who got an unwarranted do-over in 2011?

Remember a Sports Illustrated article (back when you’d get the paper mag in mail) discussed this at length. The US silver medals are in a bank vault in Switzerland. Everyone on US team would have to unanimously be willing to accept those medals for them to receive. Recall reading guys left instructions in their wills never to accept the silvers.
