A billionaire getting away with almost destroying the world would actually be one of the least fantastical elements in this sequel

I was hoping they would adapt Superman Up in the Sky for the sequel, although you kinda need the Justice League for it and it's sort of the same story as Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow (Superman goes on a heroic cosmic quest to help a young girl)
I do hope there are more villains than just Lex - Brainiac or Metallo would be great.

Lex has the best lawyers on the planet and often manages to squirm his way out. Hell, Lex could provide the US a service that they must have and the price is a Presidential pardon. If the main antagonist is Brainiac, then you could see why the government would need Luthor to fight him.

I think it’s interesting that of the three pieces of art released, one shows Superman and Lex fighting each other (which happens to be the one shared by Hoult), while the other two seem to show Superman and Lex working together (possibly against Braniac or another villain).

Lex won’t be the main antagonist. What people need to look at Lex as is more of a Magneto in relation to the X-Men than a Joker in relation to Batman.
Lex is always up to something, and while he loathes Superman entirely, he is not remotely opposed to allying himself with him to take down a much greater threat. Lex is always conspiring something and should be a major character in basically every Superman film, but he’s the definition of a pragmatist.
Quite frankly in the Justice League movie coming up, I’d make Luthor an outright and maybe last minute member of it (kind of like how Hulk rolls up at the end of the original Avengers), where Lex is then seen as a hero by the public and uses it to do a bunch of things in DCU’s Phase 2, only to become the main antagonist in Justice League 2 as the leader of the Injustice League.
With this Justice League I’d make these the inaugural members:
Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern
The Flash
Hawk Girl
Mister Terrific
Lex Luthor
Personally I’d make Brainiac the main antagonist of the first Justice League and have Luthor merge with Brainiac for his own gain as the main antagonist of the second Justice League. Darkseid is the obvious main antagonist for the third Justice League.

I read some speculation that Man of Tomorrow refers to Lex and the movie is more about him, with Superman in a secondary role
