Tell me about these…. I don’t know much about cars…

Looking for my son a truck in the next few months… seem to be reasonable in price…..

Talk me in or out of one . Thanks!

Terrible fuel mileage.

Dated interior.

Perfect in every other way.

My last xterra was a second gen (same platform), had 337k miles on it when I traded in. Interior looked great. Engine and transmission were great.

I changed all belts and hoses at 200k.

That was kind of it besides oil and air filter changes.

If you are basically set on getting him something and in this price range, it is likely your best option. Colorado/canyon came out right in the middle of this time frame. Nissan will probably be cheapest option but this truck seems to do well in terms of staying on the road and keeping value.

I would only go double cab in this class.

They can be modded to look pretty cool. Like a lift and tires, regular HS truck stuff. For the interior, if it looks bad I’m sure clazzio makes seat covers for them (not fun to install but a great product).

I would add that platform is technically more of a half ton than midsize. It's one reason they last so damned long. The brakes are massive. The transmission will handle towing for hundreds of thousands of miles as long as you do a spill and fill every 30k.

The 4.0l returns really great wear numbers with 0w40 oil.

285s fit with basically no mods.

My 05 had a dated interior the moment I picked it up. Nissan changed so little about their trucks for over a decade mine qualifies.

I put 110k on it, and I think I spent $2k in tires, brakes, etc. Other than that, no issues.

So is that an endorsement? Won’t be doing any towing etc.

Any difference (in reliability) from 6 vs 4 cylinder?

Get the six.

That 4.0l is one of the most reliable engines of all time.

Seriously.

My son has a 2014 Frontier. 6 inch lift with 33’s. Looks pretty badass for a small truck.

I just remember my Frontier turning radius of a 36 wheeler

ETA: I don't remember what year mine was may have been '07 so they may have fixed it by 2012.

Currently have a 2014 crew cab with 221k miles and trying to push it 300k. Have not had any major issues with it.

As others have said, the turning radius sucks, interior is dated (not much technology which may be good for easing a parent's mind), and gets about 320 miles per tank.

It would be a perfectly fine option for a high school / young college kid.

Nope.

It's still bad

Blame the half ton frame and short a arms. Built too heavy.

Yep.

And swap in the 5.6 engine using just a small adapter harness from driven desire. And I think 2 condesnor parts from the v8 pathfinder. Motor mounts and frame all the same.

A Cajun tuned 5.6 with b pipes and an intake in a frontier is an upper 4s 0-60 truck.

Eta: it also deoemds on what you call mid travel. You'll have longer travel than some ling travel tacomas at that point.

I have dirt kings mis travel kit on my titan. With 6100s and 5160s in the rear. Same travel as a first gen raptor. Looks like a paw paw truck.

It's a little too firm for whoops, it chatters and the interstate at times, but it lands great
