quote:

The Char B1 was a specialised break-through vehicle, originally conceived as a self-propelled gun with a 75 mm howitzer in the hull; later a 47 mm gun in a turret was added, to allow it to function also as a Char de Bataille, a "battle tank" fighting enemy armour, equipping the armoured divisions of the Infantry Arm. Starting in the early twenties, its development and production were repeatedly delayed, resulting in a vehicle that was both technologically complex and expensive, and already obsolescent when real mass-production of a derived version, the Char B1 "bis", started in the late 1930s.

Among the most powerfully armed and armoured tanks of its day, the type was very effective in direct confrontations with German armour in 1940 during the Battle of France, but low speed and high fuel consumption made it ill-adapted to the war of movement then being fought. After the defeat of France, captured Char B1 (bis) would be used by Germany, with some rebuilt as flamethrowers, Munitionspanzer, or mechanised artillery.

But only after knocking out half a panzer battalion while absorbing around 70 shots that all bounced off, and then running out of fuel because French logistics sucked rancid arse.

I really, really like your paint job.

My husband found a very old Timiya model kit for a car he had. Now a friend has that car and they want to do it sort of together.
The recommended glue/epoxy is 87038 extra thin. Is that still a thing? Or would you recommend another glue that's available.

My husband used to build ship models from scratch from the plans. He still has some of his tools, but never learned much about adhesives for small uses.

Thanks for reading.

Did the tank commander load and fire the turret gun?

Yes, which was a major problem because it not only lead to a low rate of fire on the 47mm, it also meant that when he was busy loading, aiming, and firing the gun, he could not be in command of his tank. This process further exasperated if he was the platoon or company commander as well.

Gorgeous work as always.

My favorite fact about that tank: it doesn't have an engine compartment. It has an engine ROOM.

The grandfather of all tanks that have followed. I have one of those in my stash that, Lord willing, I’ll get around to building eventually.

The French tanks really did outclass their German counterparts, especially in armor protection and firepower. But the Germans had better tactics and logistics, not to mention virtual air supremacy.

Beautiful as always altough I think most of them were abandoned or destroyed within a few days of the German attack.

Vader few questions;

How many models have you built?
What do you do with them?
I am kinda just assuming you are old too, how do u do with this as you get older with decreasing eyesight.

I probably built close to 75 or so as a kid and just a few as an adult and maybe 1 that's even close to being in your league
