I’m super impressed with the play calling. Lots of creativity. Lots of motion and misdirection

The 15 yard run by ZT when he motioned from the right to behind the QB then gets the handoff running back to the right with Durham lead blocking was beautiful

It was the first game against a good defense but once this offense starts to gel and get in a rhythm, they will be hard to stop.

With creative play calling and all the studs at skill positions WITH this suffocating defense, it’s going to be a fun year

I've dogged Sloan before but in hindsight some of the calls made sense to help the OL. That call out of the TO was bad

you dogged Sloan because you have no clue what you’re looking at or talking about

Most of the people here don’t

That’s why it’s always funny to watch the melts

The 4th down before half?

In hindsight, it wasnt a bad call. If Hilton makes a man miss, its a first down with time for another play to the end zone, or he could have scored with one man missing.

Instead he seems to slip and dive for the first and fumble.

I do wish Kelly would learn to take the damn points though

I will admit that Sloan did get more creative this year. I still think some of his playcalls are questionable. He could use someone, like Joe Brady did for Ensminger, who can help on 3rd down and Red Zone.

People complaining about going conservative late are being unfair. The defense was outstanding, a turnover deep in Clemson territory would have been devastating.

I have to say I enjoyed the second half play calling. The first half sucked arse.

That's why you take the points before half. That fg would have prevented the angst at the end of the game.

I agree and didn't understand a lot of the hate directed toward Sloan in the game.

The other thing that really impressed me is the execution. As you point out there was a lot of motion, a lot of different personnel packages. It's the first game, the entire OL is new. This could have been a total shite show with false start, illegal formation, illegal shift penalties, missed assignments and general confusion. But that didn't happen. We had a penalty here and there, but for the most part the offense executed at a high level. And I know fans wanted to see Nussmeier chucking the ball down the field, but I think we had a deliberate game plan, tailored to this defense and we executed it exceptionally well.

We should all be really excited about this season, it's going to be a fun one.

Agreed. Just finished it myself. I will be honest, I was at the game but after 6 hours of tailgating I was watching the first half with one eye. It was tough. Plus, where Clemson stuck TAF tickets was a joke.
You can not say enough about our defense, Nuss, and a brand new O-Line. Impressive.

Looked like Nuss changed the call at the line. We may never know.

The last series when trying to run out the clock was horrendous.

The creativity and scheme isn’t and has never been issue with Sloan. It’s situational play calling where he could stand to improve.

This. This. This and This.

Terrific post.

First game had many ingredients to look awful: new line, new players everywhere; tough opponent, loud and hostile crowd.

Instead, it looked mostly beautiful.

We’ll never know what the call was, or if we checked out of the first call.

The entire sequence before half was awful. Idk who is to blame but it was awful. We had a 1st & 10 at the 20 yard line with 1:30 left and 1 timeout and we came away with zero points.

It was, and it could have been a back breaker. But it wasn't. Clemson came out had a little drive and missed a FG. The sequence when Brown's TD was called an incompletion, followed by a missed FG also could have been a back breaker. But this team shook both of those off and played a disciplined and controlled game on both sides of the ball, with high energy in spite of a couple of big setbacks.

These guys get a few games under their belt and nobody is going to want to play this team.
