as soon as we got a lead we went into ultra conservative play calling trying to run the clock out. that won't work every time

The holding call on the punt return on our 3&out drive was brutal.

Brought us from around midfield to inside the 20. We would have went for the killshot if he we had that better field position

Is it Sloan or BK shutting it down?

Has to be better. Also the salting the clock at the end just has to be better. The slip screen on the last 3 and out can only hurt you. Incomplete the clock stops, pick etc… just run the damn ball. Either way not complaining about yesterday. So happy

***Excluding the kneels after Clemson turned it over on downs

LSU’s final two possessions were 7 plays and then a 3 and out. They threw the ball 7 times in those 10 plays, including on first down on the final possession.

Explain to me how that’s “too conservative”.

People have their biases and they won't let reality get in the way of them. With a defense like ours you don't have to ball out on every series. Punt it and make them drive the length of the field.

When most of the passing plays are lateral or a 2 yd dump off/screen over the middle then yes that is still being too conservative. If it’s 3rd & 8 I’m throwing the ball at least 8-10 yds down the field. Not right beside me so it can go for 3 yds or hit at the line of scrimmage.

That is because the coaches have more confidence in the defense than Nuss throwing a pick 6 or INT and losing the game. Remember BK said Zero is good.

Getting the ball into space instead of running between the tackles isn’t too conservative.

An incompletion in that situation is so much worse than a run, but they managed to dial up high percentage passes while trying to get the playmakers into space.

You people need your heads checked.

It's the first game with a lot of new pieces...going on the road and beating a pretty good team like Clemson is impressive..

Yeah....maybe it could have been better, but I'm not complaining just because everything wasn't "perfect"....we'll probably improve in several areas as the season progresses.

The 3rd and 8 had downfield options that were not open so Nuss hit his safety valve. He checked down to the rb. It wasn’t a called pass for 3 yards. Nuss made the conservative choice due to time in the game. Instead of forcing a ball 12 yards down the field he checked down. We would have way more people crying if he had thrown a pick or an incomplete pass to stop the clock.

The last thing they wanted was to risk a turnover and get Clemson and their crowd the momentum. I like Nuss, but i know for a fact that the late playcalling was because Nuss had a prior history with dumb decisions that end up in pics. This is week one in enemy territory. Even when Ohio St was at their house vs Texas they went conservative later in the game. The refs were already not on our side anyway. Finish the game out with your strong defense, and get out of there.

The offense will open up next week and we will really show what the offense looks like vs Florida.

Horrible reasoning though. You needed one score to put the game away, and instead you need to defense to bail you out again and again. Thats not fair

Horrible comment, and I hope our coaches dont think like this. You have a chance to make it a two score game, and end the game. You cant expect the defense to keep bailing you out

PFF stats came out & showed Nuss only had 2.14 seconds to release the ball.

The "conservative" gameplan was by design. Clemson has two Top 5 projected rushers on their DL. LSU nullified that rush with quick throws/screens. Even on 3rd & 8, the last thing you want is a sack/fumble or hurried INT.

When you don't have Burrow & Jefferson on 3rd & 17 with a lead in the final minutes, you gotta play it safer and rely on your outstanding defense. I'd say the plan worked perfectly.
