The pride of Sharyland Pioneer, yeah?

I think UTRGV starts 4-0, then they’ll see some competition.

It’s really cool they finally have a program. I imagine they will always be hitting the portal hard to really build the roster but a lot of RGV kids that usually go play for smaller upstate schools will get local opportunities. One of my old friends/teammates son is a freshman OL. Plus im just picturing tLatina talent walking around the tailgate scenes.

There’s idiots here advocating for TAMUCC and Texas A&M-Kingsville to merge…just so they can have a football team. Fact is, U of Texas system has done much better with the satellite campuses (UTEP, UTSA, UTRGV). Those places are also much bigger than people know. The A&M system doesn’t seem to encourage massive growth on their non-College Station campuses.

Yep. They have 1.5mil people down in the valley and they love football. If UTRGV puts together a good team, they’ll have a ton of support and energy.

Yeah, not a lot of people know how populated that area is. They support their HS football religiously, and those squads will almost never advance as far as the state quarterfinals. They have some nice stadiums down that way also.

I could see UTRGV following the route of a UTSA.

It is wild just how many TAMU & UT campuses exist.

If they actually had half a brain between the 2 systems = they would create an in-state "farm system" for all of their sports.
Imagine putting up a fence around the entire state of Texas by recruiting every single athlete across all sports & parking them within your own. D1 or FCS/D2 development league. With NIL & the transfer portal now = you can take all the smaller, slower, late bloomer pile of kids & install them into you system from the top - down. Then as you need to reload/replace your D1 rosters year after year = you have them at your disposal.
This grows interest & revenue at all of your "farm" schools/programs & keeps growing your UT/TAMU brand. You can do the same with coaching too. Promote alums from your D1 programs on down to fill & build the culture year over year.
Your travel budget slashes down now never having to leave the state to play regular season/conference games:

UTEP, UTSA, UT-Tyler, UT-Arlington, UT-Dallas, UTRGV, UT Permian Basin, even Stephen F Austin is under the umbrella.

TAMU CC, TAMU Galveston, TAMU Kingsville, TAMU Commerce, TAMU Prairie View, TAMU Kerrville, TAMU McAllen, East TAMU, Tarlton State (just beat Army), & West TAMU (though I don't think they are connected right now, but you get the picture). Hell, you could add Blinn CC to the fold.

If you even them all out - that's 18 schools. Imagine the rapid loyalty you could forge...
