Yesterday I replaced one of two hot water heaters- the setup is cold water running into the one I replaced then copper pipe into another (both 50 gallon) then copper pipe into a pressure tank (looks like a mini propane tank) then through a recirculator that makes hot water instant all through the house...after I finished, I tested several faucets and besides some air it seemed fine. This a.m. almost no hot water on all faucets and shower. I ran all the faucets, tubs, showers on hot and got more air out and it has fixed issue on most. However, im still getting only warm water in faucets furthest from the source, also still have air in some pipes. Pressure is good on one side of house and a little weaker on the other side. Any ideas?

Is this an electric heater?

Did you purge air before powering up?

If so, you maybe burned out one of the elements.

Natural gas, purged air during filling

Not trying to bust your chops, but you even admitted still having air.

I’m not aware how it works with 2 systems like that.

Did you confirm both pilot lights are lit and both units are working?

yes - have continued to try and purge air....but still very little hot water pressure on spickets furthest from tanks - and on other side of house great pressure but will not get fully hot...some spickets great pressure like it was and super hot

Might want to post a picture of what the plumbing connections look like, entirely possible you got something wrong.

if it was working before and now it’s not the problem lies in the connections you made/remade and/or in your commissioning

check all of your connections

So, is your problem one of flow not being adequate or one of the war]ter not being hot?

both, depending on what outlet i'm using - upstairs great pressure and temperature, downstairs first three outlets closest to the tanks have great pressure and temp...next two low pressure and ok heat, then what i perceive to be next on the line has good pressure but worse heat - on the other side of the house - have decent pressure but heat is poor

it got more complicated this a.m. - yday i tried to use the pressure relief valve on both tanks to see if air was in them / the tank i did not replace would not close without me banging it with a wrench...then this a.m. the pressure relief valve was leaking at a pretty good pace and the burner/ pilot was out and i didn't have hot water (not sure why new one didn't feed into that) - ended up getting gauge fixed and heater re-lit...will see the situation this afternoon after work

Man, you have a complicated system that is hard for me to envision! I suggest checking to see if there is not a valve partially closed somewhere or the inlet/outlet reversed on one of your tanks.

At any rate, the relief valve that you had to beat on needs to be replaced….if it wouldn’t shut off without beating, it probably won’t relieve in an over pressure situation.

Both of these were the issue, we had the water main in reverse order and a valve closed. Think the only reason I was getting any hot water was the recirculator

What's the purpose of having 2 heater inline like that. Just don't want to run out?

Its a 4,900 square foot house with 4 full bathrooms. It was started in 2008 builder went under in 2009 -10 house was supposed to be upgraded top level on premium lot backlog up to a couple ponds. I bought from a bank in 2012 unfinished and they had a contractor finishing and got it for <90 a sq foot..most upgrades were done by previous builder. Felt bad for neighbors, we were in for 250k less than them. No one to ask about plumbing or electrical though.

Don't know if this is your problem but the expansion tank goes on the cold water line before the water heater tank.
