It's great to sign 25 4- and 5-star HS players. However, what LSU and FSU did yesterday to me will be closer to the norm. I like having older guys who can step in and make an impact. Long term I think the most successful coaches will be those who can blend the two. Having a great scouting department is key.

And getting key players out of the transfer portal.

That's what I was implying. Can't be too pissed about losing Keys when you can add 2-3 experienced starters who immediately help.

Yep.

Hopefully we can get back to the norm of “those older guys” being your sophomores arleardy in the program.

The crazy part will be getting used to your team not being "all in" every year. Like this year for LSU, the QB is here and a solid group veteran players. So you go out and spend the scratch to be elite. Other years that won't be the case.

The issue in this era is going to be consistency.

If you have a more mature qb that will stay for 2-3 years, I think building a consistent contender by both high school and portal will be feasible.

But remove the qb and I think you will have up and down years like fsu

And as we're seeing, coaching is still important. Not just in-game coaching, but what happens throughout the season.

You mean Davhon Keys? You sure we lost him?

Spot on. I don't really think we have the qb we want for next season, though I will admit if I'm wrong. So do we ride with who we got and see who develops, then add via portal guys for 27 ?

Transfer players will always have the advantage over HS recruits.

Seems like Kelly understands the portal and fills needs. I am impressed with the new guys and how stellar they appear to be.

Is it fair to say Underwood decommitting freed up some NIL monies that allowed us to bring in some of these impact transfers

No doubt. Qb will always be the key. If you have one, plan accordingly.

I agree but here’s the thing, say you pay out the arse for a QB like Elijah Haven or Bryce Underwood, here’s still no guarantee they stay.

I think everyone is going to have up and down years now. I think recruiting top tier talent will be even more important to raise the baseline for the top tier programs, keep winning 10-11 games until you hit big in the portal with a star QB or major upgrades like Ohio State did last year

I think you’ll see them add a QB in the portal. Maybe not the number 1 QB transfer but maybe the 2nd or 3rd and let them compete.

LSU could have a huge advantage if Nuss somehow wins the Heisman this year. That will be an unreal amount of QB Heismans for a program in just 7 years.

Well LSUs had 2 Heisman QBs in the 4 years and it didn’t do shite for our QB recruiting and that didn’t mean crap !!! It’s all about the money these days and nothing to do with being developed. It’s just a sad situation what’s happening to college football.

Austin might be one of the most under-rated hires we've had

Roster management with NIL and unlimited transfer possibilities

it's the NFL on steriods... you can actually go get a QB rather than be trapped in a big contract
