DAT 8/29: Angels (Anderson) @ Astros (Javier) 7:10 PM

The offense remains a problem after averaging 3 runs a game against the below average Rockies pitching staff. The Angels come into town and also have a questionable pitching staff—which most certainly means more offensive futility will be in the offing.
Yordan is back, but I’d imagine they will nibble edges or flat out pitch around him until someone in the lineup steps up and provides some protection for him.
It does no good to complain, but I’d love to see Esock healthy and inserted into the current version of the roster. Hoping Jakey Rakey does just that when he rejoins the big club.
Tyler Anderson has not been great historically against our boys, but he shoved and got the win against Houston back in April. He threw 5.2 innings of one hit baseball. Cristian Javier has generally pitched well against the Angels, but was ineffective against them in his last start of 2024 prior to undergoing surgery. He threw 4 innings and gave up 8 hits and 4 earned runs.
Buckle up and be prepared for pain. Or maybe not. Win or lose, tomorrow’s DAT is likely to be sparsely attended what with college football kicking off in earnest.

The Astros are said to be considering a run at Pete Alonso as a surprise suitor in free agency. The all-time Mets home run champion has talked about how he’d love to stay a Met, but his free agency should go better this time around — not only because he’s ineligible to receive a qualifying offer, but also because he’s having a much better season this year than last.

Don’t be fooled by the Trump weather machine spinning up a cold front, the window remains closed

I think so, these last few weeks have been so shitty to watch. I’ll be happy to put some effort into it as soon as the offense shows some chest.

This made sense before we signed Walker. It makes no sense now that we signed him and even less sense now that we have a logjam in the infield once Paredes returns next year. Which means we’ll probably do it.

I've thought about it.
Walker would have to be traded for it to make any sense. I do like the idea of having more scary power in the lineup.
If they do that shite though, you can start to think they might also try to sell high on Pena after the Correa trade. It opens 3B back up for E-Sock.
If Walker ends the season strong, his value greatly improves, maybe even away from a pure salary dump into getting something of worth back. Pena would bring a big haul, of course.
This is no endorsement of such moves, just trying to figure out why it could happen.

Yeah but he'll show up here, Cintron will ruin him and he'll hit .220 and struggle to get to 20 home runs.

Walker Buehler released. Can we fix him?
Posted on 8/29/25 at 2:31 pm to Jwho77
Yeah, saw that
And your thoughts on that Alonso blurb are logical
But guys like Framber, Brown, and Pena have actually been working on becoming signable LOL

This one crossed my mind too. Although I’m obviously happy with his output this year, I’m not convinced that’s who he is just yet and we know Crane won’t sign him. If we got a similar return to Tucker, I’d be in.

Why bat Yordan in a place where only 1 guy ahead of him has a chance at being on base when he comes to bat?
Posted on 8/29/25 at 5:03 pm to Lsuhoohoo
Because he gets on base?
I assume that's what they're thinking.

Pena needs a boost, too. He can go up there being more selective (ie. don't chase sliders) knowing he will eventually get something to hit with Yed on deck.

This team lacks consistent power. The ability to grab 2 or 3 runs on 1 swing. Yordan can do it. So for my part, I'd like to put him position where his home run swings are most likely to have more guys on base. I know there's a modern thinking of putting your best hitter in the 2 hole. But idk. You just know Peña, Correa and Altuve are going to be on base in front of Yordan with more frequency than Dubon, Cam and Yainer.

What about Babe Walker hitting behind them, huh? Did you think of that?
Posted on 8/29/25 at 6:10 pm to Lsuhoohoo
If he was consistently in the 2 joke that's a handful more ABs over the rest of the season than the 4 or 5... so I get it there. Plus more opportunities for tye 3/4/5 guys to hit with runners on.
They won't hit, but at least opportunities.
Problem is that it will not be consistent.
