Have seen folks on here say good and bad things about Cade so I thought I’d throw some thoughts out there from someone who’s probably watched every college game he’s played.

The truth is, every positive thing you’ve seen written about Cade is probably true (hell yea for us), and at the same time, every negative thing you’ve seen written about him is probably true as well (fml for us).

I’ve often said that Cade is basically like if Jameis and Bo Nix had a baby. He will have some really good plays, but also some Jameis Oregon playoff game plays where you’re just like dude wtf were you thinking. A lot of it comes from a good-natured intent to always fight and try to make the play, but it often ends in disaster. Idk if someone tracks the balls in jeopardy stat in CFB, but between interceptible balls and fumbles, he’s got to be way up there. Similar to Nix he was a 5* with a lot of hype who struggled like crazy early but always had good plays mixed in so you could tell there was something there.

He’s also very streaky. With this being at home, if he catches fire early, he can really feed off the crowd and take things to the next level. At the same time, if he starts off really slow, you can see him get this infuriating combination of timid AND aggressive where he will hesitate, not trusting his read and not wanting to make a mistake, but then also force things.

He has improved on all of that, but it’s still in there. Same thing with pocket movement. He’s not the natural Burrow / Brees who makes those subtle movements to stay alive in the pocket. He can kinda dance and then takeoff (positive) but also dance and then drift into a sack (again, fml). He’s best in proper scrambles / designed runs, as opposed to moving within the pocket.

There’s a lot of cautious optimism with Cade this year from Clemson fans. Everyone loves the person as he really went through a lot his sophomore year when he was pretty shitty. He stuck around, never considered leaving, he’s worked super hard, and has gotten better every year. At the same time, I think there’s that pit in your stomach concern of can he truly get over the hump of that inconsistent play. Hoping he has the year like Nix did his senior year, but any Clemson fan who said they weren’t pretty nervous in certain moments with him as QB is simply lying to you.

With all the talent around him this year, and it being at home, I find it hard to believe he doesn’t have atleast a B- game. This comes down to whether he can have that A/A- and whether y’all’s OL can give Nuss time.

I know I know, TL/DR, I’ll gfm, pass on S’ingTTD, though. Hope any of y’all making the trip have a blast!

Seems like a rational post. But TLDR, GFY, and STTDB anyway.

Thanks for the insight.
In a week we will see what improvements our qbs made this offseason.
It should be a great game.

This was an awesome assessment and honestly you could switch Cade's name with Nuss in everything except maybe the designed runs and it would ring pretty true.

So he’s great but sometimes he’s not. You could say the same for Nuss. It’s a team game.

Man Les had his faults but there’s no question his players would run through a brick wall for him.

Nice post! While you're here...

Do you have any recommendations for Gameday at Clemson? What parts of campus to see, go-to restaurants, parking tips, things to do with kids, etc.
