L.A.B. putter

I did the fitting online. Of course, I have to get custom. I can't justify spending over $600 here. Never been fitted for a putter. I like a mallet. If it looks good and feels good, I go with it. If I buy the L.A.B., is it really worth it? Where will I see the biggest improvements on the greens? Please advise.

They’re great putters, but they aren’t magic to where you’ll make everything you look at. There’s an adjustment period for sure just getting used to it. Lag putting is the hardest part to nail down for most.
Just curious, what specs were you fitted for? Even the guys at LAB have said certain lie angles plus/minus a degree will still yield similar results

Rolled only Scotty's for about 20 years. Broke down and got a LAB Mezz Max last black Friday (I think). Did the online fitting as well.
Can't see myself using anything else anytime soon. I freaking love it and believe in the tech.
A few benefits I've seen:
1. Missing right was almost always my miss. Got to where I hated left to right breaking putts because I felt like I was always pushing them. Turns out, just like LAB was saying, was I was slightly opening up my face and not knowing it. It has 100% helped me with left to right breaking putts without having to change my stroke.
2. Definitely making more putts inside 10ft. I used to use a line on the ball in tournaments and I've completely gone away from lining up my putts with the ball and just go off feel/putter alignment.
Things that were hard to get used to:
1. using the press grip it is recommended that you place the ball more forward in your stance. Basically there is no way you can place the ball too forard in your stance. I'm placing mine about a ball more forward in my stance than I always had, So changing the way I've done something for 25 years was a little challenging. I still have to catch myself time to time and put it more forward. This isn't an issue for some people, it was for me. But I've never once even changed the way I grip the putter, much less ball placement.
2. I haven't tried the OZi with the face insert, but the LAB definitely has a different feel off the face than any other putter I've used. Sound off the face is different too, almost a knock. Plenty of people complain about struggling with lag putting. I personally think you can struggle with lag putting no matter what putter you use
You just have to get used to the feel.
I am probably going to order a df3 soon even though I have no need for one. I just would like to get one before the PE firm that bought them out starts possibly making changes.
If the price is too steep, you can check the LAB outlet site and just keep an eye out and wait for one with your specks to pop up.

Gotcha. Yeah 72 degree lie angle isn’t too crazy. Do you have a particular model you like the best? All will have a similar feel with the horizontal grooved aluminum faces, except for the OZ.1i with the milled insert.
Like another poster mentioned, LAB Golf Outlet is a great place for deals. Or post a WTB on WRX

Love everything about mine. Bought the very first DF3 at my club. I think the DF2.1 is the best one they've made but it's just too much to look at for me. The DF3 pushed my limit.
The Oz1.i (with the insert) is absolutely awesome. I've rolled a ton of putts with one that our assistant pro bought. It feels so much more like a traditional milled face putter. I'm sure it will help with lag putting for most right out of the gate. The DF3 took time to get speeds right on longer putts.
Like it's been mentioned, move the ball forward in your stance. I struggled my arse off for years with face rotation. My Spider putter was as good as I had until the DF3 went in the bag. The other thing I love is that I'm not afraid to roll a ball 3' by anymore. I will make the comebacker. Couldn't say that before. I'm sure the zero torque revolution will end one day but they must be doing something right...everyone is copying them.
As far as the cost goes...only something you can determine. But you use your putter more than any other club every single round. Seems crazy that we've normalized $600 drivers (stock) but we've also been conditioned to think that same amount is way too much for a club that is used every hole of every round (most use one 30 times in a given round). There are several facebook groups of people selling LAB putters and like it was mentioned, there is the outlet that sells returned putters or customs that are discounted. Check those places...you might find something to your liking.

I have a DF3 that I bought from the outlet. I did the online fitting, and found one at the outlet with my specs with an upgraded shaft for about the same price as stock.
I absolutely love it, and it has helped my putting tremendously. I always had speed issues stemming from worrying too much about hitting the ball on my line. With the Lab, I just line the ball up to my line and worry solely about speed. It has removed the element of trying to hit it square almost entirely.
They really encourage a smooth stroke where you don't help the putter head (I bought the heavier head). So it just becomes a matter of how far back and through you take the club to gauge speed. I practice a few stock distances before each round and now putt better than I ever have.

What length? And I’m assuming standard head weight vs. heavier? Also, stock steel shaft or wanting an upgraded one?
I can browse WRX and send you some links to ones for sale

Gotta big problem... I'm left-handed.

No problem man. I’d check labgolfoutlet.com daily as they’re always updating inventory. Plus you get to see actual photos of the putter you’re buying.
Not sure where you’re located, but here in LA, I’ve ordered from there several times and haven’t been charged sales tax. Should be able to find one in your length & lie and save some money

Three LH 72* on the outlet
All three have the upgraded shafts though so still a little pricey. Basically get the Accra shaft upgrade for free on the Charcoal one.

Love mine, got it in a 20% Black Friday deal. Custom DF3
Posted on 8/20/25 at 3:20 pm to ratman2233
I went to Edwin Watts and bought one off the rack. The best money I've ever spent on a piece of golf equipment. I bought the DF3 and love it. It took me a while to get used to the weight as it was a bit lighter than the Scottie Phantom 7 I was using. As one of the thread posters wrote, it took a while to get used to the lengthy lag putting but I seem to have that down now. My biggest improvement has definitely been the 6' and in putts, I feel as though I can make every one of them, I don't, but I make a lot more now than I did before and I have a lot of confidence that I will and I think that's one of the main problems I had before, I knew I was going to miss and I would. The off the rack model felt good to me in the store and I had the wants to buy one then, so I did. I didn't want to wait and took the chance and I'm glad I did.

How many strokes is it worth ? Would pay x amount to save x strokes ? Personal decision to make.

I don’t think it is some magic wand.
If you can point the face of any putter down the line you choose and roll it the proper distance, you can putt.
Putter costs are getting as out of hand as drivers.
That said, for some people LAB is the putter they can align and roll best.
