If I need to shock, I use the appropriate amount of chlorinating liquid (or bleach back when it was cheap). Note that your stabilizer levels need to be in check for any of this to work correctly, and I’ve found pool shock to throw this out of whack, since it contains stabilizer.

I use both shock (without stabilizer), liquid chlorine/bleach, and super chlorinate.

For routine treatment after a heavy load, it’s usually SC. If I’m treating due to some visible algae or breakout, then I’ll use shock and/or liquid.

I’ve never used liquid.

Had some algae worth, and pool guy (I’ve used since I got, and trust) said to SC.

This is my go to for all pool related issues:

Go to TROUBLE FREE POOLS website.

But to deal with your issue - get a few gallons of pool chlorinating liquid sold at wal mart, Ollie's, HD, etc. Don't throw shock into a saltwater pool.

Go to Trooblefreepools and read up on it. There is no reason for it in a salt water pool. All you should need is the appropriate amount of liquid chlorine for whatever you keep your CYA at.

Because it elevates CYA at the same time, unless you can buy the type without it — which I’ve never been able to find.

Do you have an issue??

I’ve never shocked salt water pool ever. I do seldomly super chlorinate at times if kids have party with bunch of friends over.
