Year old Clothes Dryer - Whirlpool WED4950HWO

Neighbor and his mother live next door. Neighbor just told me he opened his mother’s dryer to see water collected in the bottom of the drum. He sponged it up with a towel and said it was basically soaked so that is a goodly amount of water. He checked the filter. It’s ok. He turned it on and venting allows hot air to vent outside so no clogged vent. He then dried some clothes and it worked.
He asked me about his findings and I thought I’d toss it out here for review and comment. I have not gone over to his house so don’t know specifics except the model of Whirlpool he texted to me.
His mother has some dementia kicking in and I told him she may have opened the dryer door and dumped a glass of water in there. Possible…

Maybe the spin cycle on her washing machine in broken and she's putting clothes into the dryer soaking wet?

I am having the same issue. I have a Maytag. I cleaned out the vents and took the dryer bottom apart and cleaned it out. Close dry fine and vent fine. Water/condensation will build if it is closed.

I’ll suggest he trials leaving the dryer door open after use. It is such a strange phenomenon….

I have done with mine and it still does it. I am thinking it has to do with the humidity in my house or something. I am going to get put a sensor in my laundry room.

I've seen people blame their dryers for being broken because the spin cycle on the washing machine is failing and leaving the clothes too wet and taking forever to dry.
for the OP the only thing other than water being poured in I can think is a problem with the hvac system putting house under negative pressure and warm outside air is getting sucked in through the dryer and condensing on the cold metal.

Water in the drum is almost always a clogged vent. If vent isn't clogged i would look to see if it is a steam dryer if it is then the inlet valve may be sticking.
