I probably need to call my grandpa and see how he’s taking this news.

As an aside, AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) was the coolest and greatest man-made technological contribution to the adolescent yutes of the United States of America in the 90's and early 2000's.
What a time to be a kid it was...

Having a “spicy” convo with whom you assumed was actually a girl your age…
Then someone picks up the phone and knocks you offline..

When I lived in El Cid, sometimes I'd disconnect and it wouldn't release my phone line. I'd have to walk to a pay phone and call myself.

It was just better marketing than Prodigy.

Mooooom!
I knew AT&T ditched all POTS Internet a few years ago, I'm kinda surprised AOL was still using it given how much space the dial in banks took up in a data center.

Message boards and IRC were great before there were dating websites and long before any apps. I found IRC to be the most effective since it was real time texting. Got a better feel for how they really think.

They mailed a CD-Rom to every address in the United States with clear instructions on how to install it, run it, and plug in a phone line, and the CD took it from there.

I miss IRC. It was fun.
Hail Reagan's site used to have a Thursday night chat. I kind of wish we'd replace the Scoreboard with an old school chat room.
