Remember all of those hefty handouts Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski won in exchange for sealing the deal on Donald Trump’s behemoth budget bill? It looks like the president has found a way to get out of delivering. “I feel cheated,” Murkowski told the Anchorage Daily News Friday. “I feel like we made a deal and then hours later, a deal was made to somebody else.” Ahead of the bill’s passage earlier this month, Murkowski had co-sponsored an amendment to ease the phaseout of tax credits for solar and wind energy under the Biden-era Inflation Reduction Act. Her measure would ensure a 12-month window for clean energy projects, which would end in 2027. These tax credits would help to alleviate a looming energy crisis along Alaska’s Railbelt, the electrical grid that serves roughly 75 percent of the population, due to declining resources of natural gas.

quote:

Trump threw a wrench in that agreement Friday when he issued an executive order to “end market distorting subsidies” for green energy projects. The order directs Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to take actions to “strictly enforce the termination of the clean electricity production and investment tax credits.” Now Murkowski claims that she and her pals were duped. “Do I feel like the administration was not being up-front with us? Yes,” she told the Anchorage Daily News.

Good for Trump. That corrupt slimeball has done nothing but screw the American people for years. Give her a dose of her own medicine.

If your business requires government subsidies in the form of tax credits for anyone to invest or for any profit to be made, you don't have a sustainable business model.

There isn’t a single form of energy that isn't subsidized. You wouldn’t want to see the true cost of electricity with zero subsidization.

That should show her and others that they cannot rely upon the Trump administration to adhere to any deal. In the future you have to either comply like a toady or oppose. There is no middle ground.

Seriously???
Declining natural gas resources? Sounds like we need to extract more natural gas, there's definitely no decline in natural gas underground.

And you can’t eminent domain a pipeline across Canada like they do here to keep the cost low.

There's also alot of natural gas production in Canada and the Dakotas.

What are natural gas reserves underground in Alaska

Alaska has substantial natural gas reserves underground, primarily concentrated in two regions: the North Slope and the Cook Inlet. Here's a detailed breakdown based on available data:North Slope:Proven Reserves: Approximately 35 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of natural gas are considered proven reserves in the North Slope, particularly around the Prudhoe Bay area, which is one of the largest natural gas resources in the world.

Undiscovered Resources: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimates significant undiscovered, technically recoverable natural gas resources. For instance:In the Central North Slope, the USGS estimated a mean of 8.9 Tcf of natural gas in conventional accumulations in 2020.

Across the entire North Slope, including the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPRA), estimates suggest over 85 Tcf of natural gas in conventional reservoirs.

For unconventional deposits (such as shale and tight gas), the USGS estimates up to 80 Tcf of natural gas.

It’s my opinion that those subsidies should never be offered in the first place.

Which ones? Some aren’t “paid”, because it’s just an offset to existing tax liability. Others are “paid” via the govt for protecting supply chains globally. Others are “paid” by land owners getting their property taken at rates they can’t negotiate themselves.
