Stump Grinding cost?

Have 4-6 large stumps that need to be ground. What is a good estimate on cost per stump?

I got an estimate for 60 stumps (mostly pines). Baw told me $1,500 and it would take 1.5 days. Told him I’d think about it. 5 minutes after he left, he called and said he thinks he can knock it out in a day, so $1,000. Told him I’m good with that.
Took him 2 hours, including his lunch break.

Wow, he have a bulldozer with an attachment? That seems insanely fast and wild.

But really, that's what we paid recently per stump.

That's pretty wild. We paid 3K for 9 stumps and it took them 3 days. Granted these were gigantic, 4' + dia pine stumps, but still...

They must have been small stumps. I had a guy come do 3 that were 36 - 48 inch and took him about 3hrs with a 48hp Vermeer grinder.

Stump grinding cost a lot for some reason
Pour some diesel on the stumps, let them soak, then burn them to the ground

As long as you're far enough from any structures, this is what I would do. Its going to leave a mess either way, might as well spend the effort on shoveling some ashes out of the hole in the ground rather than sweating through using a stump grinder or paying someone else to do it.

Was just one of those walk-behind machines. The stumps were mostly from small to medium size pine trees, and many close together spread across a couple acres.
ETA: I was impressed by his stump grinding skills…though somewhat less impressed by his estimate skills.

If the stumps can fit inside a 55 gallon drum then:
1) Cut ends off of 55 gallon drum
2) Drill four 1" holes about six inches from bottom of drum
3) drill holes in stump
4) go to local super market and ask for 4 old, broken pallets. ( they will
be happy to give them to you) Break apart pallets.
5) throw old, burnt motor oil all over stump and wait 1 day
6) place drum over stump with the 1" holes at bottom.
7) pour diesel all over stump
8) light the fire
9) feed fire with chunks of pallets (or anything else you want to burn) when
needed.
This will actually burn for a couple of days. The fire will get very hot. And I mean super hot. You can actually hear the fire "breathing".
good luck
