Termite Bait Stations (Sentricon) vs Chemical Treatment

Active infestation or just preventative?
It has been almost 10 years since I had Orkin trench and treat with liquid for an active infestation. It got rid of the active termites quickly with very little damage to home.Of course they also put out bait stations every 10ft for future preventative measures. They just came and did my yearly inspection and told me it was time to retrench even though I have no active termite activity.
I got some quotes and ended up dropping Orkin and going with J&J exterminating for bait traps only, no trenching for less than Orkin was charging for bait traps. J&J said that without active termite activity they do not recommend trenching and have not seen any issues with their clients that do this.
After watching a few you tube videos by Guys Pest Solutions i am also treating with Bioadvanced termite killer granules around the perimeter of the house instead of trenching and liquid treatment.
All this is being done in the next couple of days, so I hope it works out for me.

I just received my termite renewal letter from Terminix to retrench and told my wife, screw that. My buddy utilizes J&J for years now, and likes the service they provide. Do you mind sharing what the cost was for the initial treatment? I too, do as you do, and spray for bugs/ termites yearly on my own.

Sentricon is the way. A close friend of mine worked for several of our local companies and its the best option there is. Id recommend googling your subject as there are many videos that describe the difference. Sentricon being about 95% effective but the other is a toss up.

This guy seemed pretty honest. Several guys in the industry replied in the comments that he was spot on. I think I'm going with a liquid treatment after watching this.
I'd like to be able to confirm his data on bait station/liquid effectiveness with the EPA but I need to do more research.

Previous had a Sentricon system installed by the seller since the house was infested with termites. Shows how much a termite inspection is worth.
Our annual renewal was $450. Did you get a quote on the annual (renewal) cost?

3 years ago Terminix retrenched my entire house in Oak Hills BTR for free! I've never understood why. A possibility is that they had a swarm of valid warrantee claims in the area and concluded that their prior treatments were faulty. Companies often get generous when liabilities crop up.

Trench treat the perimeter of your home yourself with this stuff. It's literally the same exact chemical the pros use and you'll save yourself hundreds, maybe thousands. Plus, you'll get a good workout and you'll know it was done correctly.

$225 to refill if needed.
Trench and treat was $150 a year to spray base of slab and $750 every 5 to 7 years to retreat.

J&J quote was $200 first payment then $109/month for the first year. After the 1st year $25/month until we decide to end the contract. The first year payment covers initial inspection and installation of bait traps. After that it covers inspections and checking/replacing bait traps with no contract. Can cancel at anytime if needed.

I just spent 10K$ repairing my walls.....these Formosan termites are bad little dudes.

Which is the exact reason I'm having a liquid treatment done with Termidor. We had extensive damage on a home we bought and liquid treatment kills and stays in the soil continuing to kill. To hell with taking a chance that termites find a bait station and not my house.

That is why in my first response I asked if it was an active infestation. If active, I would definitely go with the liquid treatment to kill the termites as fast as possible. If there is no active infestation, I think the sentricon bait traps are a good choice. I get it that it is not a 100% guarantee, but it is a cheaper alternative than the liquid treatment unless you do it yourself. Plus most companies want to do the liquid and the sentricon bait so the cost adds up.

And better yet…wait till a small drought and the dirt forms cracks/gap between slab and dirt along your perimeter. Makes for a lot less work.
