Some free trade commentators are skeptical that the tariffs are DOA when a D takes office

I think this is something that needs to be taken seriously. Whoever takes office in 2029 is going to be faced with large deficits and will need revenue sources to fund their main goals. Immediately axing the tariffs will be problematic for a WH in need of revenue

I’m no expert, but from what I’ve seen, trade deals aren’t changed that often. Businesses and governments typically rely upon the consistency of trade policy.
Only way to get rid of these tariffs is to cut spending (politically unpopular to cut programs), raise taxes (politically unpopular), or continue running up the deficit.

Democrats love taxes. They will keep the tariffs in place if/when a D takes office.

Biden didn’t immediately roll back what Trump did in his first term.
The bigger threat is if the next administration isn’t as proactive with hiking tariffs when our trade partners do the same. When they learn they can take advantage…they will.

To be fair these aren't trade deals, no signed agreements. These are considered temporary arrangements.
Unless Congress acts, then there is no deals.
These tariffs are effectively a sales tax... So going to be hard to takeaway. But right now they are being wielded for political purposes. Not sure where they end up

I saw that article yesterday and he's right. Once a tax is in place, it's there forever. The Dems will view the tariffs as a fund for worthless social programs.
