With 13 power outages in 2025 alone, Entergy continues to disappoint with reliability. The same area of ~400 homes is impacted by unreliable equipment & lack of tree maintenance surrounding the lines. Anyone been successful with formal Energy Commission complaints or other communication avenues to drive improvement?

Wanna be more specific as to where you are located?

It’s only going to get worse. If you’re able to look at their infrastructure as a whole, you’d be very concerned. I look at Monday through Thursday, I know.

Where in Ascension? I’ve lived off of Swamp Rd for 22 years. And in the past few months we’ve had a couple power outages that are head scratchers because there’d be no weather issues when we would lose power. And lose it for an extended period - hours.

We lost it Friday around 6:30 pm until after 9:00 pm. There were some approaching thunderstorms but they arrived over an hour after we lost power.

There’s a bunch of road construction at Airline and Perkins so that might be part of the problem.

Bluff Rd area from C. Braud to the new middle school. Outage yesterday was before any rain and several fuses were tripped from DQ to Bluff. I have a decent emergency setup for power outages, but debating the move to a whole home generator as no sustainable improvements are evident.

They can only improve reliability by:

-replacing old equipment
-Reinforcing system capacity
-putting power lines underground
-very aggressively trimming existing power line rights of way

All of those solutions mentioned above cost a hell of a lot of money. How much of an increase of your power bill would you be willing to swallow for increased dependability?

Because that is what it would take…

I’m off of 42 in oak grove right near airline. Lost power for almost 5hrs Friday night. Looked at the outage map and this small area was the only without power in the br and surrounding area.

I would’ve easily installed a whole home generator 3+ years ago instead of building inverter + battery generator systems for storm outages. The continued decline in reliability with steadily increasing fees wasn’t part of any Entergy communication over the years.

I’d gladly share costs for reliable repair if I was also elegible to collect on profits thereafter. Intent of this thread was to help identify any options for the entire section vs just conceding and buying a whole home generator.

You can absolutely do this….buy some stock in Entergy and that is exactly what you will be doing!

Can you show me the direct correlation between stock purchases and equipment repair in my direct area? Or, even the top 10% bad actors?

Appreciate your continued input to help.

Nope…I don’t have access to that kind of information for Entergy. I just know how utility accounting works.

like what? Entergy already knows when your power goes out so they already know where the problem areas are. If you are asking if there is anything you as a consumer can do to expedite an improvement the answer is no

Entergy doesn't trim trees as aggressively as they have in the past. I think they have found that it's cheaper to just let a tree fall on the lines, then pull the wires out and re-connect. Then just leave the tree for someone else to clean up. The outage that this causes is just collateral damage.

full disclosure entergy was my largest client for decades and I’ve spent hundreds of hours on site at their service centers. Each one used to have a fairly large and well equipped vegetation department responsible for maintaining overhead clearances but most of that has been subcontracted now. There are way too many miles of at risk overhead lines to be proactive about it so it’s generally a response to an issue service. Also people bitch up and down when they get a little too enthusiastic about cutting

it’s just the way it is there’s not really a good long term solution that is economically feasible. And honestly it’s not that big a deal hurricanes notwithstanding

If you go whole home generator get one for lp. Nat gas pressure may fall when a lot of NG home generators in the area are running. Get your own 500 gal lp tank.

Power is out again. I'm calling the parish tomorrow. I'm willing to work with anyone along Hwy 427/bliff Rd. to make our voices heard. I'm tired of being charged $27/mo for storm restoration and losing power 15 times a year. Maybe start with a councilman?

I feel your frustration as a power blip occurred today. Watching the weather to pre-cool the house isn’t something I’ve had on my radar before. Feedback in this thread confirms a home generator is now required for ensuring base power service to poorly maintained areas. Will plan to install one in the fall as I am aware of at least one formally filed complaint that received a response committing to reliability improvements, but certainly not putting faith into sustainable maintenance.

Good luck with any efforts & I’ll monitor for any feedback from your end.

Alabama Power is the same. It was over a decade ago when they came to trim branches in the easement between our yard and the neighbors behind us. Now they've all grown up again. I had a branch fall, get wedged between two tree trunks, and was resting on the powerline. I called to report it, and they said as long as it didn't down the line, they were not messing with it. I don't have a bucket truck and a saw to remove it myself, so almost 4 years later it is still there. On my neighbor's side, not mine, and he apparently doesn't care to take care of it. He's a weird little Japanese guy that destroyed a beautiful yard to put in his garden. I walked back to the fence one day and he had old metal filing cabinets laid on their back with the drawers removed for raised garden beds.

This could not be farther from the truth.

Most utilities would much rather trim their rights of way than have outages. We had some outages in my town due to limbs/trees. When entergy undertook a trimming program to avoid the trouble in the future, you would have thought the world was coming to an end!
