The House Legislative Study Committee on the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) convened on July 29, 2025, to address ongoing concerns regarding the division of public and private schools in high school athletics. The meeting highlighted significant dissatisfaction with the current split, which many believe has negatively impacted the competitive landscape of high school sports in Louisiana.

During the session, committee members discussed the historical context of the split, which was initially implemented to address competitive imbalances. However, some members expressed that the split has not achieved its intended goals and has instead created further issues within the state's athletic programs. One member, Mister Beaux, articulated strong opposition to the split, stating that it has been "extremely detrimental" to high school athletics.

The discussion also referenced past instances where private schools, despite lower enrollment numbers, dominated state championships in higher classifications. This situation was cited as a primary reason for the split, but the committee members are now questioning its effectiveness and considering potential reforms.

As the meeting concluded, the committee acknowledged the need for further evaluation of the LHSAA's policies and their impact on student-athletes. The next steps will involve gathering more data and feedback from stakeholders to determine the best path forward for high school athletics in Louisiana.

We should be fixing homeowners insurance, not the one time transfer rule

It hasn’t had a negative effect on Georgia and Tennessee.

Louisiana politics is a different animal brother. LHSAA does not govern in the best interest of the student-athlete here.

I can’t think of a collection of dumber people than a combo of the Louisiana legislature and the LHSAA.

As a principal and former coach we don’t need the spineless imbeciles that are part of our elected officials putting their noses in the government of high school athletics. Fix the damn roads, build the bridge in BR, and attract industry to Louisiana are the issues you need to be tackling.

I understand the LHSAA has a lot of issues

Getting the state involved will make it 100x worse

The principals passed a new rule regarding divisions this past January… it’s in the new handbook and everything. Without telling anyone the LHSAA decided “we’re not doing it this year” and didn’t even put coaches of the affected schools in the loop
