In arguably one of the biggest days in American Open Wheel Racing history, Fox has agreed to purchase 1/3 of Penske Entertainment which includes the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indy 500, and NTT Indycar Series.

For those who watch on the periphery or follow the broader motorsports landscape, this is a BFD.

Fox , who has no love lost for Liberty Media , and who seems to have given up on NASCAR outside of its early season schedule, is looking to go all in on Indycar and use its strengths- The best/closest racing on earth, Indy 500- Worlds Single Day Largest Sporting Event/ Most prestigious race on earth, and ideal blend of F1 sophistication and stock car grit, diverse schedule - to get Indycar racing back to where it was 30 years ago, as America's Premier Racing Series, and a legitimate rival to F1 Hegemony.

I don’t watch a ton, outside of going to the St. Pete Grand Prix to start each season, but that sounds fun. I’d like to try to become a casual Indy fan.

One thing I hope Fox does in this new deal - and something Indycar has failed at since the Split of 1996 (think LIV/PGA on steroids) is that Indycar Racing is not only the oldest racing series on earth, but the Indycar Championship crowns the National (Racing) Champion carrying on a legacy that extends to like 1905 and the first motor races ever held that was first started by AAA.

Indycar racing is older than Nascar, Endurance Racing/Lemans, and F1.

That’s cool and all, but the Grand Prix of Iowa or Milwaukee aren’t exactly Silverstone or Suzuka.

Good to see Fox going all in. Maybe it's gotten better, but I felt like the broadcast just wasn't nearly good enough when I watched earlier in the season. I'm used to watching Sky, where you're always in tune with how the differing strategies are playing out and it just didn't seem like Fox was providing nearly as much info. Also, qualifying just felt like a mess. Watching cars go around the track without sector times just isn't the same.

Hopefully this is the sign of better things to come because the on-track product is great.

It's never going to be, and that's ok. They need to lean in to what they're good at which is competitive wheel to wheel racing, unlike the parades you sometimes get in F1.

They really need to get back on a couple big ovals besides Indy imo. That type of racing is exciting in a totally different way than F1.

Indycar needs to promote their product better. Half of the races I watch I accidentally find while channel surfing. I’m a big motorsports fan. My algorithm knows this. I still hardly ever see an Indycar ad.

DRS has ruined Suzuka, it's become one of the most boring races on the calendar (like Spa).

Indycar at its core is a North American/Western Hemisphere series so while Suzuka, Monza,Spa, and Silverstone will never be on the schedule , you get more raw and less neutered tracks with more character and authenticity than your average Tilkedrome- Indianapolis, Long Beach, Toronto, Road America, Mid Ohio, Laguna Seca, Barber etc

Iowa sucks and is not coming back, but Milwaukee is the oldest racetrack in the country and has a ton of history in the sport.

Hopefully in the future Indycar/ Fox articulates the 120 year heritage of open wheel racing in Milwaukee

100%- Pocono and Michigan need to come back.

Good deal for a solid second tier behind F1.

Maybe with Fox having a vested interest, they will take the sport seriously, and hopefully realize what they DON'T know about the sport.
If they are all in, and recognize the history and tradition of the sport, it could be very interesting.

It's still pretty shitty. Although you could say that about Fox Sports across the board.

With the new chassis still estimated to be three years away, and Honda's continued involvement in IndyCar still up in the air, Fox needs to go all-in on producing a first-class product to help grow interest in the series now.

IDK Will Buxton is better than Leigh Diffey, the practice and quali sessions are much better IMO

Yes there are some questionable cut aways and directorial calls but thats more on IMS productions than Fox

Overall, the broadcast quality has been better than NBC

Also, it appears Apple TV is buying the rights to F1. ESPN is a bad network these days but they did great for F1, no commercials not even side by side. When you turn on an F1 race its start to finish. With Apple they will lose a ton of US viewers.

Nascar showed 5 or 6 races on Prime and lost over 25% of their viewers and thats an American staple. F1 draws less than 1/2 or worse than Nascar.

Fox has a great opportunity here with Indycar. They need a fuller schedule without so many long gaps during season.

You think so? I think Buxton is awful. He's guilty of the cardinal sin of...pausing...between...every...word...for...dramatic...effect. Love Indycar but I can't watch him.
