Prior to the 70s, there was a thought that anyone below an 85 IQ was mentally challenged. There were so many people that scored below an 85, that number was lowered to <75.

So here's the thing. There are a ton of people walking around with an IQ between 75 and 85 that seem normal. They have jobs, they have kids, some of them have college degrees and some are in Congress. Kamala Harris was estimated to have an IQ of 82 and she was a Senator and Vice President.

ChatGPT on jobs that an IQ of 80 can do:

Hospitality (barista, dishwasher, etc.)
Retail (cashiers, stockers)
Janitorial
Dog Walking
Food Prep

We have people ruling us that aren't qualified. That is a problem that people aren't talking about

What does that say about the people that vote them in?

College degree is about checking boxes and paying your tax. Not really about learning anything or getting smarter.

IQ will continue to decline as people rely more and more on computers and AI.

Sure, as a person with a very high IQ who spent a lot of schooling and social times around peers of that respect, it's easy to point out people who think their IQ matches their education level, but the IQ ranges he's using are very low. Like, "had trouble graduating from high school, if they even did" low.

I have always hated the emphasis on IQ. Some people use IQ as an excuse to believe that they are better than others. Though it has no effect on conscienceness/work ethic. I also find it amusing that people with lower IQ's out breed people with higher IQ's. Demographics is destiny.

While it may be true that the cost of certain degrees doesn’t align with their value, college outside of STEM is about proving you can effectively manage yourself, stick to a goal, and maintain responsibilities / work ethic over an extended period.

The list of jobs chatGPT suggested could be done with an 80 IQ doesn’t reconcile with the claim that people with an 80 IQ can make it through a 4 year degree program.

IQ tests aren’t perfect, and standardized testing isn’t perfect — but I don’t think people realize how far out an outlier an 80 is lol.

Exactly.

Some associates degrees? There are probably a decent population who have.

a 4-year degree? Unless you're an athlete with all the tutors/help they get, it would be hard as shite to do.

You do realize IQ is not the full measure of someone's intelligence?

It measure reasoning and problem solving only. Creativity and social intelligence is not measured at all.

IQ is by no means a way to measure if someone is stupid or not. Many experts even question its validity.

You are correct. There’s also been a huge push over the last 40 years for low IQ people to attend college. Then the curriculums had to be dumbed down to accommodate them or else their graduation rates would plummet.

Everything seems to be a race to the bottom.

When this country started, it self selected for high IQ. Low IQ people just didnt survive and repopulate like high IQ people did.

Id assume this is why lower than 85 IQ seemed so bad decades ago. We have imported a LOT of the dumbest humans on the planet to score a good life from the work of high IQ people of the past.

Id agree with this. Its why, despite having higher IQ, Asians actually invent much less technology, they just improve upon what others invented.

What does this have to do with graduating from college?

Being creative or having a high SI (or EQ), with a super low IQ, doesn't put you in a good position to deal with college (or other educational fields).
