Any ballers here have either of these Pellet Grills? If so, are they worth the extra $$ over a Rectec?

I’ve had a YS1500 since 2015. I cannot recommend them enough if you can afford them. I know people that are on their 3rd pellet smoker in that same time frame. Traeger and green mountain grills are the ones that don’t appear to be built for longevity.

I did upgrade the motherboard when the parts became available to allow for wifi control.

Have had a Yoder YS640 for 5 years. Built like a tank and does a great job. I also got the grill grates for cooking steaks. Can get the temp over 700 degrees

I thought about trying out a pellet style grill and was looking hard at the LSG mainly because they also make real wood chips you can mix with pellets and their auger is designed so it can run that.

Yeah, I like the idea of running wood chips as well.

The only negative is LSG is the only one who makes the chips that will work with their auger design as far as I know so you havet o buy from them, but thats not a huge issue all things considered.

Are you wanting wood chips for additional smoke flavor? As I've gotten older I like a more medium smoke flavor and a pellet grill gets you adequate smoke flavor. Smoke ring is prevalent on smoking meats. I don't notice a drop in smoke flavor from a stick burner personally but I would say my pallet is not super sensitive.

I have a yoder and came from a Green Mountain Grill. Only had the yoder for a year, but the build quality is just insanely better than the GMG. If you're on the fence about a pellet smoker, get you a cheaper one and just expect to run through it and figure out how it works and if you like it then graduate to a higher end smoker. Just know you'll get 2 or 3 years of medium use out of a cheaper one.

As far as any hesitation going from a stick burner to a pellet. I used to be "proud" to run a stick burner, but I just have lost all interest in staying up all night babysitting a fire. Results are just way more consistent and the effort is so low on smoking briskets. A 30lb hopper will last you 8 hours or more at smoking temps so you can sleep all night while the grill works. Unless you just enjoy the struggle of smoking all day, pull the trigger on a pellet smoker and don't look back.

Yes that was my draw to it. I know one can use smoke tubes or things like that, but being able to mix it all together if I want was appealing.

I have not had much off a pellet smoker but I do like the results I get from using a Primo XL or my master built gravity smokers. I look at the MBGS as a pellet smoke that uses charcoal as pellets and you can add in chunks or splits of wood. I was looking to replace the 1050 so I was kicking the tires on pellets but ultimately I just went with the MB XT for now.

I have the Lonestar Grillz Pellet 36 and would definitely purchase again. I had an issue when I got it home and got support directly from the owner. The fireboard controller battery was dead and I just had to plug it in and wait for a few hours. It has been smooth sailing since then.

You can run wood chips in the LSG, but you have to purchase them from Lonestar Grillz and they're not always in stock.

Whether it is worth the premium over Rectec is a personal decision. You can't go wrong with Rectec.
