ACA Insurance sent to my house. Except they don't live here.

I've received numerous mailings from the Healthcare Marketplace and BCBS for someone that does not live at my address. It's only me and my two sons at this address and we are on ACA healthcare insurance. I contacted both the Marketplace and BCBS. The government said to hold all the mailings while BCBS said to return them to the post office. I followed the ACA directives. They said they would followup a a week or so. Is this a scam on me or an illegal trying to get insurance?

I’d check your credit report to be sure. Same thing happened to a friend of ours. Was getting mail / bills to his house with another name. What a cluster that was.

My credit lines have been blocked for many months. No unusual activity on those accounts. Just wondering why they chose my address.

Marketplace already a cluster and probably going to lose a lot of the subsidies at end of 2025.

You actually took time out of your day to call the marketplace and Blue Cross? What a huge waste of your time!

My house was built as a house in 1964.
I get occasional mail for someone at my address except it's for Apt. 9.
There are no apartments.

$174 per month. Premium subsidies are about $1200. Have to keep income low to qualify for the subsidies. Fortunately I have enough money to keep my income under about 70k per year.

I'm retired so time is plentiful. It didn't take up much time. Maybe 10 minutes. I got a person right away. They took my info and moved it to a person in the fraud department. She called me the next day. She verified who I was and said they would handle it. I've received two more pieces of mail from the marketplace for the same person.

This is a common way for shady brokers to scam the marketplace. They buy stolen information, register these people for 100% subsidy marketplace insurance (they don’t have to pay a penny for the premium so no one even knows) and use a random mailing address hoping the recipient will just toss the information. The brokers get paid commission.

What kind of scam?
It's either someone using your address or a mistaken address.
I wouldn't worry about it. You did more than I'd do honestly.

Didn't know about this. I didn't use a broker for my ACA insurance. The Healthcare.gov people said to just keep the mailings and not worry about it. I assume they will investigate the issue.

I didn't know hence the question. Healthcare.gov basically told me to keep the mailings and they would investigate. Doubtful I will hear more of this issue.

Yeah it’s nothing for you to worry about. You did more than your part by notifying them. It’s their problem, not yours.

Shady brokers writing plans without the individual's knowledge are the biggest issue with the ACA. The insurance carriers and the gov had done good job of shutting down their angles in the past 12 to 18 mths. I'm always worried that they will find new angles. But, at the moment, the biggest opening for scammers has been closed.
*Rehab facilities are the number 2 villian when it comes to gaming and abusing the ACA. And the FBI is closing in on those frickers as well.
