Evidently, requirements for becoming licensed changed somewhere around 2009 with folks who are color blind being able to pass a test showing they could appropriately identify the necessary colors. I didn't realize this was a thing.

Any of you a color blind pilot?

I think the reason traffic lights are red, yellow and green is because of people that are color blind

They are in a specific, repeated order for a reason

Right, very few have full absence of color.

The colorblind test just grades what level; the vast majority of people still see color itself. Hence why they have moved to the new tests.

Can't help you with pilot answer but supposedly im color blind. When I joined military I took the test. I thought they were fricking with me when they asked what numbers do I see when I was looking at a bunch of colored dots. Severely limited my MOS options.

Of course the Army took me in as 11B/M. I can see colors though

I believe this is the usual reaction for more colorblind people. They have no clue they are colorblind until the test.

Does sound like some very military shite. Whoever wrote the criteria didnt have an understanding of what colorblind meant so they just waived off them all as not seeing color.

Now I will admit this, I can't see the different shades in colors.

Also what's crazy is a green light doesn't look green to me, it looks like a clear light but I can see green. Weird

As long as you can still see the green and purple light on the PAPI you’re good.

You can get a waiver by having a control tower flash the lights while with an examiner. That’s for second class, not sure about 1st or ATP.
