Why didn't MT make that pass to CJ late in the game?

Everyone knows exactly what I'm talking about. Thornton came up with a steal and drove the court and had CJ way out in front of him. Instead of passing it off for an easy bucket, he kept it and went up for a layup that was blocked out of bounds.
Did we end up scoring on that possession? Was that when Terry Martin got the goaltend call?

CJ wasn't that far ahead of him. Better to finish up the high percentage layup than make the scoring attempt more complex than it needs to be.
That was just a very good play by the Tenn player of blocking the shot without getting the foul called.

yes he was. he also wouldnt have had his shot blocked because he wouldve dunked it. that was stupidly selfish on thornton's part, one of the few bad plays he made all game

This is the correct answer. It drives me crazy when guys have an easy layup and try to pass or do something tricky and screw up the gimme 2pts. That said, it doesn't always work, as was in the case here.

It was the perfect SportsCenter top 10 plays moment. I was hoping he'd lob it up and let CJ slam it home. Ah well.

don't know why he didn't pass it. Johnson had an easy dunk. But, we scored on that possession b/c i made a point to notice. 2 foul shots, don't remember who hit them.

ehh...i'll respectfully disagree

the correct answer was he made a mistake not passing it up. no question about it. if he had it to all over again im sure he would have. but frick it we won.

May I respectfully refer you to the 2007 SEC tournament game against Bruce Pearl and teh Tennesse Vols. That was against a better Tennesse club which featured SEC Player of the Year Chris Lofton and Jujuan Smith.
Head to head
Brady 2
Pearl 1
Why not just post something positve about tonight's win and not make a disparaging comment about a coach who contributed greatly to the LSU basketball tradition of greatness.

I was confused as well. Marcus has never been a "get mine" type of player. On watching the replay, I'm not sure he saw CJ. After crossing midcourt he looks over his left shoulder to gauge his separation from the guy he pilfered. Johnson was on the opposite side of the court and likely out of the periphery of Thornton's vision.
If he did see him, then it was a rare case of poor judgement from our most consistent performer.

that game had what to do with this game? you dont think TJ wouldve won that game to? and probably by 10 more points.

TJ didn't coach the 2007 game and Brady didn't coach tonight's game so you have no idea whether LSU would have won tonite under Brady. Maybe they don't squander a 15 point lead in 7 minutes under Brady. Who knows? Let's just enjoy those two wins against the highly overrated Bruce Pearl.

Apology accepted.

villanova and their 18 point deficit last year with 6 minutes left strongly disagree.
i hear they are having a riveting discussion about brady's 5-4 record in the sun belt conference on the arkansas state board. run along now.

dont forget the 10-12(ive already forgetten the actual number) lead against ohio state with like 3 minutes to go. i guess the difference is trent helped his team to victory. but until he sits on the bench biting his nails in the ncaa tourney while uab runs them up the court he'll never be the coach john was.

Thornton should have passed it...no ifs ands or buts. The defender was at an angle where he could not have been able to defend a 6'11", long armed freak of nature. Larry Conley agrees.

It happens to all coaches and all teams at times.
Roy Williams and Nrth Carolina lost an NCAA tourney game a couple of years ago when they lost about a 20 point lead and made 1 of their last 23 shots.
Bruce Pearl adn Tennessee lost an 18 point lead to Ohio State.
Billy Donovan and florida lost a lead to South Carolina last week.
It will also happen to Trent Johnson one day.

you know what. 100% agree. but the fact that you're still backing a coach that has proven to be so awful is pretty funny. what do you think brady's record is with this group? i dont know why i really even asked that honestly.
