Looking for a place within an hour of New Orleans to take the family too. Some place with sandbar.

Lake Verret/Belle River. Can launch either on the Thibodaux side or Morgan city. Great family friendly water area. Bars/restaurants with boat access too.

Might as well join the rest of your neighbors over here every weekend...

BSL may be a good idea. Can run up the Jourdan River or Wolf River. Bars and restaurants accessible via the public harbor. Theres also “broken bottle beach” in between the harbor wall and bridge.
Will be pretty active and packed for the 4th

Lake Maurepas
Launch at Canal Bank, run down Diversion to Blind River. When you hit the lake, go left and you'll see the boats at the Lake Maurepas sandbar.
You can stop at the kid-friendly Blind River Bar for burgers, etc. on the route.
