Is overall contract worse or mainly signing bonus?
In the era of NIL does that change the math at all

minor league contracts aren’t for big bucks.
$30,000 - $35,000 a year or so on the upper end for someone in AAA.
so it’s all about the signing bonus.
if you have any college eligibility left, then you can negotiate a higher bonus or go back to school.
if you have no eligibility left, you don’t have much ground to stand on in asking for more.

There is no overall contract. It's all signing bonus. Players in MILB are paid based off of what level they are in.

For high school signees, yes. For college juniors that are serious about trying professional baseball, no. It's not just about money. Most of those who go to college and are viewed by MLB as a true prospect who can progress through a minor league system and not just a guy needed to fill a team start their professional career at age 21. Most do not want to be starting their pro careers at 22 or 23 years old and are advised against doing so by agents.

The "contract" is just guys getting paid whatever that level in minors pays (peanuts mostly). The signing bonus is the much bigger factor.
NIL isnt going to factor in with guys getting mid-high six and then seven figure bonus offers, theres not that kind of NIL out there in college baseball.
For the guys who might get offered a few hundred grand to sign or less, NIL could compete with that some if you figure NIL could compete with that over maybe 3 years in college.
In the end it mostly comes down to are guys betting on themselves in college to improve their draft position over 2-4 years or not. Schmidt did not come to LSU because of any NIL deal, he was getting 7 figure bonus offers, and not just $1M ones. He came here mostly because he just wanted the college experience and loved LSU, and to some lesser degree probably thought he could maintain or maybe even improve his draft position. I would venture to guess the majority of guys to make it to LSU who have decent draft stock simply think they can either improve that position at LSU while making a little coin in the process or just want the college experience because living life in your late teens very early 20s in the minor league system sucks.
