OKC Thunder Offseason Thread: Banner Being Raised in front of KD on 10/21

We have a lot of Thunder fans here, especially with inclusion of OU in to the SEC. Time for a dedicated Thunder thread for the MSB.
First off, YOUR 2025 NBA World Champions: THE Oklahoma City Thunder!!!
SGA first ever:
- Regular season MVP
- Conf. Finals MVP
- NBA Champion
- Finals Champion
How this team came to be:
Future outlook:
The team will look basically identical next season, with the major addition of minutes from Nikola Topic and any draft picks the bring in (or trades?):

Thunder have so many assets they don’t even know what to do with them.
And congrats to the Thunder and their fans. They kicked arse this season and probably will for years to come. Damn you, Sam Presti.

Wow, this really a terrific thread. Thunder are expected to extend Chet and J-Dub this offseason. SGA is eligible for supermax after next season. I’m interested to see how Baby Luka (Topic) fits in. I know we have a young squad but 19 years old seems like a project especially with the dogs he will have to compete for PT with. All those draft picks are insane. Presti is building a terrifying arsenal.

If they get anyone that can shoot 40% from three, they could repeat.
They just won the finals while shooting 29% from three throughout the playoffs. That’s insane. If Isaiah Joe could defend better he could do it but he’s a defensive liability, and if his shot isn’t falling then he doesn’t have a spot on the floor.

Rockets are going to be very tough now. Will be shocked if WCF isn’t Thunder Rockets.

Topic has pro ball experience going back to 16 years old. Not a typical 19 y/o.

Let Jaylin Williams go play for someone else. He’s too good to rot on the bench.

I’ll be sad when someone like him does leave. Dude is the ultimate teammate. Every Thunder player raves about him.

They better be trying to get better….two different teams took them to 7 games. Teams that were not supposed to take them to 7 games.

They’re going to have to move Hartenstein eventually. You can’t pay a backup center $30 million.
As of now they have 13 guaranteed contracts and a team option on Haternstein and big J Williams I believe so they have 15 players under contract. Presumably they’ll have to make a couple of moves since they have picks as well.

I know he didn’t start in the past series, but he started all year at the 5. Chet would play the 4.

Look, I get it. But this was the second youngest champion in NBA history with a second option in Jdub at 23 years old who never sipped a drop of alcohol until he won the championship.
Their play was inconsistent but I never thought there was a chance the Nuggets or Pacers could win against them. OKC was far and away the best team this season. If they really wanted it, their defense could carry them to a victory against anyone. I just think you saw glimpses of a team that quite frankly didn’t give a shite in moments where you need to give a shite (game 3 against Timberwolves, game 6 against the Pacers). It was frustrating to watch but I don’t believe it was a lack of talent.

Draft is a day away and I think there’s a couple guys Presti looks at as legitimate additions. I know it seems stupid but his prototype is a player that can dribble, pass and shoot with good basketball IQ and a plus wingspan. They usually have good defensive intangibles.
If they keep the pick.. I’d go with Collin Murray-Boyles, Rasheer Fleming, Sorber, Carter, Nique Clifford or Cedric Coward.
I can see them trading it for a “win-now” strategy (lol) to pick up a shooter. Cam Johnson is everyone’s dream and we have the draft capital to pull it off.
Or I can see them drafting a developmental guy like Topic last year given we have everyone coming back.
At the end of the day, I guess I’ll admit I have no clue what Presti will end up doing. He’s surprised me every year and anything is on the table. But how can you not trust the guy at this point.

The only thing I want is better 3PT shooting. Thing is, you look at the numbers and… things seem fine?
I was gonna say “is it too much to ask for a 3-and-D guy that can hit 40% from 3?” Then I looked and Lu Dort was literally 41% from 3 this season
And 34% during the playoffs which is still fine.
Idk, kinda seems like they have everything they need. The guys they have need more consistency from 3, but you don’t necessarily have to go out and get someone new.

But things are rapidly changing. Go ahead and max out SGA for next season, and the young core will be due soon. Fortunately, they are ahead of schedule and finally bring a championship to one of the best-run programs ever. For such a small market, they truly do everything right.

This is a good 3 point shooting team that simply has had some challenges doing it in the playoffs. If they had shot the 3 ball even somewhat better, they probably win it in 19-20 games.
That’s the funny thing about this team: this year almost for sure will be the worst version of this team. And they won it all lol.
