Hopefully he can make a big leap with another year of coaching.
The mental part of the game is what seems to be holding him back at the moment. Definitely has the physical tools to be a great one.

He saw what it takes to be an Ace, and he now knows what to expect.

I think he comes back stronger next year and ends up the Friday/Saturday starter

I think he has all the potential to be a star for us. From what we have witnessed from coach Johnson, him and Yeskie will get William sorted for next year. Let’s enjoy #8 for a little while though.

Time to put in the work. Hope he stays in the lab all summer with Nate.

Really excited to see Cooper Williams with another year of seasoning. Hell Rizy too

Schmidt, Evans and probably a transfer will likely be our rotation next year or a few of our top 5 pitchers either way.

Was Anderson in the same spot Shmidt was as a freshman. Could he take the same step?

Shores/Evans/Schmidt

Could be the fastest pitching trio lsu ever had.

Just need Shores to come back and Yeskie to work some magic.

Schmidt also has two more years of eligibility. Let's hope he pans out like Anderson did

He has to learn mental toughness. It’s that simple.

You won't see Shores in an LSU uniform again.

He will it’s tough be the Man with a ridiculous ERA something like 0.82
and undefeated well a 2hit loss. Gatorade player OTY and La. Mr Baseball. You get to college and errybody’s the Man so to speak. It takes not only talent which he oozes, but a mind set to work through adversity and work your a$$ off.
Coach JJ will get him straight and he knows now LSU can do it without him but they need him to keep it going. He’ll be fine and win some games at LSU. Eventually he’s a Friday, Saturday pitcher imo.

What we really need is for the fans to be patient. Next year is going to be a rebuilding year to lay the foundation for the following year. We probably will not finish in the top half of the SEC, unless Jay performs astonishing portal magic.

It’s insanely similar. Anderson had a crazy good start (something like 12 strikeouts) vs. SLU last season in a midweek game, then as the season went on he became almost unplayable.

Schmidt had 2 really good 4 inning games vs. Nichols and Xavier, with 7 and 8 strikeouts. After which Jay was quoted “I think this will be the last time we see Schmidt pitch during the midweek”. Then when he took the step up he lost it as well.

It’d be crazy to expect the same jump, but not crazy to expect a big jump.

He obviously has the stuff. The strike zone isn’t different in high school, and he struggled with control, which leads to factors unrelated to technique imo. I think it was just the first year jump in competition and environment that got to him.
