Public Land Target Shooting

Can anyone point me towards some resources regarding target shooting on public land in Louisiana? I would like to learn more about it, but I'm struggling with Goggle. If possible, I'd like to set up targets to train for USPSA.
UPDATE: Thanks for the info folks! It sounds BLM land is what I was looking for which isn’t available here. Looks like I’ll be signing up for a range that has an action bay. Cheers!

I'm not an LA expert but every state I've looked into, it is not allowed outside of designated shooting ranges on some WMA's. Firstly, they don't want gunshots going off outside of hunting season, so the wardens don't go looking for poachers and someone can just say "oh I was just shooting targets". Secondly, they don't want it during hunting season because it would frick up the hunting and also be a danger to other hunters crawling every square inch of the WMA.

That's what I thought initially, and it seems obvious, but I've heard otherwise so figured I'd ask here and Google.
EDIT: I think I misunderstood my buddies - pretty sure they were on private land now, my bad.

This isn't what I'm looking for, these are ranges.

There is no public land target practice outside of the several I just listed for you. What are you looking for exactly?

Who did you hear it from and what did you hear?

I’d also love to shoot on public land but not sure where that can be done. I’m in Texas and guess I’ll just need to buy some acreage just to shoot outside.

I'm sure a Google search would answer this for you.
In Georgia, it's free if you have a valid fishing, hunting, or WMA pass. Unless you want to shoot clays, then you pay for the clays.
Texas, not having a state income tax, might nickel and dime you for a public range on a WMA. I'm sure Google will answer this for you quickly.

Yeah, Im thinking you're wanting to go on public land and shoot like you own the place. That don't happen as far as I'm aware, you have to shoot at the range or do like us and shoot in the backyard.

Firearms are only allowed on WMAs at shooting ranges outside of hunting season.
So no, you can't target shoot on a WMA unless its on a range.

Not sure where you are located, but the only range around that allows action shooting is MCTA in Kiln Ms.

I'm around Lafayette. Luckily I was able to find one about 45 minutes away from me, the Fusilier Complex in Arnaudville.

Sounds like he wants to be able to set up a tactical pistol course.

Our range was closed Saturday so we just rolled out to Kisatchie and set up targets in a new clearcut. Probably shot 150 rounds, cleaned up the targets and water bottles we shot up, and went home .

Might be a dumb question, but what did you use for a backstop? The woods? I'd be worried about where those bullets are landing beyond the target.

About 15 miles of pine forest without any roads.
