No one in the history of the sport threw the ball better than Marino. I don’t think that makes him the best, but his lack of a Super Bowl title overshadows how great he was.

Right. It was a discussion about "ring culture".

Arm talent wise, he’s correct.

Arm talent wise, Brady lasted longer than any other qb. No other qb had the zip he did into his 40s

QBs only recently have lasted into their 40s. In the 1900s, they took hits.

quote:fair enough. My point still stands because he last much better than either manning, Big Ben, Flacco, Bree’s, etc. only other one who hasn’t seen his arm talent dip by the end is Rodgers and even that is questionable

Peyton Manning and Brees never had big arms.

I don't like the idea of tearing other great athletes down in that sense, doesn't accomplish anything other than making you sound like a total douchebag
That said, Dan Marino is the quintessential elite drop back passer, has the size, the toughness, the leadership, the physical traits, very underrated improviser, but last and certainly not least, supreme confidence in his release and touch on the ball to the point that everyone in the stadium knows he'll complete the pass before the play even develops

I don't think it's tearing down Tom Brady to say he never saw a day in his life where he could throw a football like Dan Marino.

Joe Montana (Brady's idol) calls Dan Marino the best QB of all-time (for the Pros that know).

True, but how many other qbs played into their 40s? Brady couldn’t be touched the majority of his career. I believe they changed the rules after 08 when he missed the entire season with that knee injury. As good as Brady and Manning were the nfl changed rules to benefit their game.

Nobody except John Elway, Sonny Jurgenson, and Joe Namath can

Maybe Bert Jones.
ETA. And Sonny is too often overlooked when great QBs are discussed.

Joe Namath didn’t have that arm. And certainly wasn’t very accurate like Marino.
