Family vacation there in a couple of weeks. Wondering if anyone here has been there and may have a fishing recommendation, or any other recs for that matter. The contact at the B&B says they don't get fisherman often and don't have any rec's. Seems strange for an island in the Great Lakes.

I've been there. Rented a bike and road it around the island. Nice summer weather.

We were there a couple of years ago. Went for the day. It's an amazing place. We just hiked around, ate and drank frankly. The carriage rides are fun. Rent a bike as well.

Some research...

Check Cheboygan or St Ignace for a charter trip.

Depending on where you are flying into. Take 23 north and spend time in Alpena. Shipwreck tour, free shipwreck museum, brewery, shops.

Tawas is also a good little beach town.

I’ve been twice, stayed at the Mission Point resort both times. Plenty to do at the resort and on the island as well. It doesn’t get dark during the summer until around 10pm so you’ll have plenty of time for dinner plans and other stuff. 2 days in the island is plenty and 3 days would be my absolute max. Visit both mission point and the grand hotel. the grand had multiple restaurants and bars, be sure to go during the day because they have a dress code at night. Grab a drink at the round island bar and grill across from mission point. We ate dinner at 1852 Grill room, nice atmosphere and drinks.

Also take the ferry from St. Ignace instead of Mackinac City, it is far less crowded which makes it easier to get to and from the island.

Appreciate all the suggestions. We're staying on the island for 3 days. Guess we'll sneak out and play a little golf. Sure hoping to get some fishing in though.

We are looking at going this July with another couple. Some questions:
Do you recommend this place? It's #1 on our list so far. What size room for a couple?
What airport should we fly into from CENLA? I think we are getting United in May but have American and Delta now.

Any tips or traps for the uninitiated?

Yes, I highly recommend mission point, plenty of amenities but not the huge crowds or price point of The Grand. Room was big enough for my wife and I. The resort is just a short bike ride from the “downtown” area. We flew into Detroit once and Grand Rapids on our second trip and rented cars. Both were fairly easy drives, each time we made a road trip through the UP, once flying home from Milwaukee; the other flying home from Chicago.

What do you do with the cars? Park in a lot then take a ferry?

Got it booked. Chose Grand Rapids because flights were significantly cheaper. So happy to be able to do something other than the beach.

I'll be at Mackinac for my first time fourth of July for 3 nights, but really only 2 full days. Staying at mission point. Flying in and out of traverse city, only an hr drive. Cherry festival is going on in traverse as well. Will share anything I find that's worthwhile!
