Why do people just assume Tiger is the Goat?

Jack has three more majors and played against arguably better competition

Most people are idiots

Anybody that watched Tiger in his prime knows that the only reason he didn’t eclipse Jack is due to his body breaking down.

Meh

He's got the skins on the wall. Only second to Jack for the majors.

I think Jack is the GOAT for his longevity but honestly I'm not argue with anyone who says Tiger is the GOAT, both were remarkable and we are lucky to have had them.

I honestly think Rickie Fowler is the GOAT… not going to argue with anyone who thinks Tiger or Jack tho

and played against arguably better competition

Because those aren’t the metrics to measure the GOAT
Posted on 6/15/25 at 5:46 pm to Barrister
Interesting. So what are the metrics?
Posted on 6/15/25 at 5:48 pm to RoosterCogburn585
Tiger and Jack are literally 1a and 1b …
They were both dominant golfers in their prime.. both have a ton of wins and majors and blah blah blah.
I do feel Tiger brought a different fan base and level of excitement to the game and should be credited for a large contingent of people taking up the game.
But trying to distinguish Goat status over one or the other is simply gonna be personal preference and which one you say play in their prime.

Because he was pretty damn good.
Look him up.
Look him up.

I liken it to the MJ LeBron discussion. LeBron has had the better career but MJ is the best player, Jack had the better career but Tiger was the better player.

At least Jack wasn’t a degenerate philanderer.

Nah, LeBron would be lucky to crack the top 5 of the greatest NBA players. That comparison ain’t even there same it’s a bunch of LeBron homers trying to make a case.

At least as far as you know. Media coverage wasn't like it is today. Take JFK for example, you think that wouldn't be in the media? Nevermind, he was a democrat.

This is partly what I was about to post.
Tiger did to pro golf popularity what Jordan did to pro basketball popularity. That’s what puts him over the top IMO,

Winning percentage, for one. Before the injuries started, Tiger was winning almost 30% of his starts.
Posted on 6/15/25 at 6:22 pm to RoosterCogburn585
For 8 years he was.

You sure about that?
