This is my speculation on our pitching strategy going forward based on Game 1.

Shores and Evans are obviously our two most trusted guys out of the pen, and they both only pitched one inning. With a day in between games, I think the plan is to keep their pitch counts low and use them both to close each game with the expectation that we have a lead late.

Game 2: Eyanson until the 7th inning, Shores 8th and Evans to close in the 9th.

Game 3: Cowan for 5 innings (with the option of Cooper Williams/Noot to pitch an inning or two to get us to the 8th), Shores 8th, Evans to close in the 9th.

Game 4 (if necessary): Anderson again and perhaps Eyanson to close the 9th (if desperate)

For the final series: Friday (Bullpen), Saturday Eyanson, Sunday Kade

Lost all credibility.

Williams, Rizy, Mayers, etc will have to play a role.

Cowan is definitely the wild card
If he can give lsu what he did earlier in season it will help a ton
I think getting him in this bigger ballpark will help

It has to be Evans in g3 either way. Or at least Shores.

Williams will be a big plug on Monday along with Shores most likely in relief. Everyone is expecting Anthony to pitch well and pitch deep. Hopefully our hitting can compliment the relief guys and give them some cushion.

Thinking about Noot facing that Arkansas lineup gives me anxiety, a lot of anxiety.

Anybody other than Evans in the pen scares me against them

Cowan
i by no means know anything about Cowan and his struggles lately. Imo, I believe he is dealing with arm issues, nothing big but he isnt the same. He was completely different from one day-to- the next and hasnt been the same since for about a month or longer now. Some may say he is figured out by opponents. I dont think thats it. Its pain imo.

So much depends on how the UCLA game goes. Ideally you either don’t use Evans or use him for only an inning. That leaves Evans ready to start the elimination game if we lose the first against the losers’ bracket team. And you have Anderson if you need him.

So for the first game against the losers’ bracket team you go with the wholestaff - Noot, Rizy, Ware, Cowan, Schmidt and Shores if you didn’t use him against UCLA. Hopefully one of them gets hot and goes four innings. But if you lose you have Evans and Anderson to get you through nine and into the championship. If Evans goes six and Anderson goes three, then Anderson can go in game three of the finals.

Yeah dog we ain't starting Cowan unless absolutely necessary. If it plays out with us in winners bracket, you will see shores and Evans again for 2-3 innings each...then wholesale. I'd imagine the fres h man left hander would start before Cowan

My dream scenario for Game 2 is Ant for 7-8 innings and Cooper out of the pen.
Have Evans, Shores, Cowan, Noot, Rizy for game 3.

Would be great if we could get through second game without using Evans OR Shores, unless the game is really tight!

The idea is that Arkansas is scraping the bottom of their pen and we are raking.

When is Jay Johnson's history at LSU has he gone all in with his pitching selections when being in the position where he has to be beaten twice?

If Evans and Shores are needed on Monday they will pitch. If LSU is 2-0 on Wednesday those two may get the day off.
