The most important stat from yesterday.

5 HBP and 8 BBs.
13 free base runners is hard to overcome.
Let’s hope for more of that today.

WVU are base hit wonders. They score a lot and don't rely on HRs. Pitching is mediocre, And their defense is statistically the worst of the remaining teams. They know how to apply pressure from the batters box and base path.
Hoping Eyanson is feeling it today with that 12-to-6 curveball.

I am curious to see how Jay manages the game. If Eyanson can go 7 I’d be curious to see if he elects to go with Evans or Cowan to try to seal it. Or if he tries to save them and close it out with Cooper and Shores.

That will all depend on the score. If we are down, he’s likely not using Evans until it’s tied or we have a lead.
If we’re up 5 or fewer, I think Evans would get the call to close.
If we’re are up big, Jay will likely try others like Shores or Mayers to eat and inning or two and maybe let Evans grab the 9th so he gets a little work in. That might also be a good time to use Cowan with less pressure to see if he can bounce back and get some confidence.

They will sit on that pitch. If his fastball command is there and he can keep them guessing, he will have success.

Everyone in the SEC tried to do the same and couldn’t. If he’s hitting on the fastball and locating the breaking balls from multiple points, all of which he’s been doing at an elite level over the last 3-4 weeks, he’s extremely unpredictable and hard to hit.
You can’t just sit on one off-speed pitch with him when he can bend it out of the zone and repeatedly bait guys to chase it, and then drop it in the zone starting eye-high. That one is almost impossible to predict and pick up when it’s really hitting.

Cowan to try to seal it
He’s the kiss of death in a close game.
He should only be used if we’re blowing someone out, and be on a short leash.
If we have to depend on him in a close game, we’re fricked.

That would depend on the score at that time

Obviously the score will dictate it. But I’m more curious if the score is tied or we have a 1-2 run lead to see who he brings in.

Except they are sitting on the breaking ball. Have to land those pitches
