Ohio State planting early excuses vs Texas

We all heard the story. Top 5 matchup between two blue bloods. CFP rematch. The whole deal. Wow shocker Fox wants it at the big noon (11 AM kickoff) slot.
Now the last few weeks stories are coming out that Ohio state wanted to play at night rightfully so BUT it must be moved from Saturday to Sunday night. Texas had to sign off on it but declined.
So from now until then we get to hear all the buckeye fans accusing Texas of being scared to play at night and so on. Sounds to me like they are just doing some late spring planing of excuses. So if and when they lose to Texas they can bring this back up. “SEE SEE SEE”.
As someone who has suffered 3 of those Sunday night prime time games in a row, I can attest that this is by and far the worst time slot to play on Labor Day weekend. You have to sit and watch everyone else play from Thursday thru Saturday night then guess what? Nothing on all day Sunday until prime time kickoff. No pregame show. Nothing. Just goes from 60 minutes straight to kickoff of the big game.
No SEC team should ever volunteer to play that lame Labor Day eve Sunday night slot ever again.

Weird melt Bro.
Didn't Ohio State just beat Texas in Texas a few months ago ? At Night ?

Ohio State plays all our big home games at noon, and every big road game at night. Very likely that Penn St. in the Shoe will also be big noon, but nearly every time we play them away it's a white out night game.
That's the issue. Ohio State fans don't get big night games any more.

Everyone bitches about the noon games...now when tOSU tries to do something about it and gets denied you some how twist that in to them preparing excuses?
I get it that it may benefit tOSU more than Texas and that is why we are asking and they are saying no, but I doubt any "well we would have won if we played at night" excuses will even come close to flying.

There is zero way they should schedule this game at 11 am. Way too hot at that time of day.

They already beat Texas in the game that mattered this year
They aren’t scared of Texas

Won’t be bad in Columbus. Warm but nothing like Austin

Welcome to what LSU fans went through for years when CBS had first dibs on the marquee SEC game every week for their 2:30 time slot. All those years when LSU was consistently a top 5-10 ranked team, we barely got any big home games at night because CBS would usually pick those games for their SEC game of the week at 2:30
Blame your conference for selling their top tier media rights to a network that wants to put their marquee game of the week at 11am every week.

It's Ohio. It will likely be warm to hot but not miserable. There will be 50+ other games starting around that time over the country that will be hotter.

So you're agreeing that it should have been at night, but then when OSU's brass agrees and tries to move it you say they are excuses?
I think the response from TX was the lamest here "I have to go to church Sunday". Just say "no we wanted to play on Saturday and that couldn't be worked out, we will play whenever the game is scheduled"

Because Texas gets all the negatives but none of the benefits from rescheduling it to Sunday.
Its a Big Ten home game, so the better prime time TV ratings only benefit the B10 and Fox. And Ohio State gets a more amped up night crowd and bigger home field advantage.
Meanwhile, Texas gets back to Austin in the wee hours Monday morning with a short week before their next game. And it messes with travel plans for Texas fans who make flight and hotel reservations based around a Saturday game.
So why would Texas have any incentive to move the game back a day when they gain nothing from doing so?

Texas also vetoed moving the game to 2:30pm on Saturday.
What's your excuse for that one ?

How in the frick is anything you posted "making excuses"? What a dumb thread title.

Honestly I agree with most of these reasons. If OSU was on the opposite side of this, I wouldn't want to play Sunday night.
Not sure this really matters in week 1 when your next game is San Jose St. Teams play on Thursday/Friday every week and it's not an excuse for their prior/next game.
If their next game was like LSU at home I would be much more in agreement.
But I agree with most of the stuff and don't see why they should modify anything based on them playing the game when it is scheduled. If OSU wanted it on Sunday they should have worked with the networks to get that done last year

You got a link for that?
Because my understanding is that the Big 10 media rights agreements give Fox the first choice for the big noon kickoff slot. CBS owns the rights for the 2:30 time slot.
So how were they going to move the game to 2:30 without either Fox letting CBS take that game (zero chance) or CBS agreeing to let Fox intrude on their 2:30 time slot?

The new format makes the game largely meaningless for both teams. 10-2 gets either one in the field. Both Ohio State and Texas made it last year with 2 losses.

Yes, Ohio State fans are scared of Texas

why do you care? About any of this?
