Grand Isle Fishing Report

Heading down to the island this weekend and weather looks almost too good to be true. Been hearing a lot of people been catching on croakers, but not much talk about shrimp. Bringing the boat and plan to fish out of it in the morning and surf fish in the evenings while the kids play on the beach. Any feedback would be appreciated

I'll be headed down to wade Elmer's, you're right, weather is looking promising. My buddy fished last weekend solo, caught his 15 on the beaches in under an hour.

It’s been really good on the beaches when weather allows. Having said that, the fish will only be active for a couple time slots during the day and mostly not feeding during the other times.
This site is really helpful and accurate. Pick the appropriate location and date, scroll to the bottom and it will give projected fish activity times. This isn’t always accurate but it is often spot on.
Went this last weekend, a friend stopped fishing and went in for lunch with a small box of fish. I stuck it out after seeing the fish activity times and the fish turned on like predicted. Finished catching our limit in about an hour.

Don’t always assume the fish will always feed in the morning and evenings. Sometimes it’s in the middle of the day.
Last 2 trips.

Where are you seeing a good wind forecast? Windfinder shows Sunday getting blown out.
They are on the beaches, though. Caught 60+ Saturday evening and 33 on Sunday morning. The buddy I was with caught another 25ish each day. Fish the first trough

I didn’t say anything about this weeks forecast. I was just speaking in general.

Good summary of this past weekend in GI.

Hammered them Saturday evening on the beach the Sunday morning on the beach. When the wind isn’t blowing they are out there. I used matrix shad limbo slice

No on the bottom 1/4 oz death grip jig head

We caught them a variety of ways. Cork, jighead, mirrolures.

If the water color isn’t too bad a Frozen Smoke down south lure is deadly in the surf

Out here now. Bait jumping everywhere and birds diving, but only one bite so far. It’s early, think they will turn on in a few. Water is clear

How'd you end up doing?

Felt like i was fishing coffee, terrible water on Saturday. Caught a few crabs on the main beach though.

Talked to a friend that lives down there. Fished long and hard Saturday from Fourchon to 4 bayou and they only had 25 all day

Yeah, fishing Elmer's felt useless. Saw a couple boats at Grand Isle Marina cleaning fish, lot more reds compared to trout ratio.
