Rickie Fowler qualifies for Open Championship through Sponsors Exemption

Rickie got in to the Open by finishing t7 at Memorial by being the highest finisher not otherwise exempt. He got into the Memorial through a sponsors exemption because he didn’t actually qualify for the signature event.
Sneaker finished t7 as well(another sponsors exemption), but without him the next unqualified player was Ryan Gerard at t23. So 20 of the top 23 are already exempt, so we’re giving a spot in a major to a guy that needed to be like 10 guys in a 70 person field.
Meritocracy were told the PGA Tour is, while Rickie and spieth get exemption after exemption into what are essentially no cut events giving them free points, which are what’s needed to keep qualifying.

You wish you could get laid too. Piss in one hand and wish in the other, see which one fills up faster

Regardless of how he got into the tournament, a T7 finish at Muirfield is impressive & he earned his spot in The Open.
Much more impressive than P Reed’s 2nd place finish on the Asian Tour to earn his spot. (Oh & all the LIV golfers get exemptions to those events simply for being on LIV)

you’d have more of a gripe if he finished bottom and picked up a guaranteed check imo.
And, as far as Open quals, take it up with the R&A

Rickie has been playing pretty well the last two months.

He’s 67th in the fedex cup and he’s played in almost exclusively signature events (none of which he was actually qualified for)
The point is the Tour is the furthest thing from a meritocracy, which is fine, just don’t act like it is.

Do you ever add value to a thread or are you just interested in my posts?

If only he could prove himself against has-beens, the predominant type of golfer on the LIV tour. Ian Poulter and company really strikes fear into the heart of a competitor these days.

His son, who plays at Florida, is in a qualifying spot for the US Open coincidentally
