It’s one thing if he were hitting the ball hard and putting the ball in play and just getting unlucky . Productive outs , but the pop-ups/strikeouts are a frickin killer. Jay needs to realize, he might be doing Jones a favor by taking pressure off of him by moving him down in the lineup. This is coming from a huge Jared Jones fan.

Move him to six hole and let him see more fastballs.

He has to understand: 80% of what he will see is off-speed. Stop looking for fastballs. Lastly, if they throw you a 90mph fastball and you are looking off-speed… he is good enough to catch up with it.

Agreed, also, take a darn pitch or 2... just because you're up 1-0 doesn't mean swing for the fences.

Milam has done a great job of changing his approach, much more productive at bats

I'm all for letting guys work through slumps in Non-elimination games, but it's crunch time and Jones being in a premium spot is actively hindering the lineup.

frick his feelings at this point. Move him down and hope it shakes him out of the slump.

ETA: The fact Jones isn't walking is also a huge problem. When you're in such a huge slump you should be battling and trying to find any way to get on base. He's just up there waving at any pitch that's remotely close to the zone and trying to hit every one of them to downtown Baton Rouge.

Hell, Jones himself might not be opposed to it . It’s not like he’s getting benched .

He is trying to do too much and overcompensating.

In his mind, he needs a bear bomb. He just needs a few base hits.

Baby Cub Steps, then step it up to Bear status in the Supers.

I hear this but I think one of our biggest problems as a team offensively is the shear amount of pitches we take. It’s like the whole lineup is looking walk first and hit second. We take 2 strikes every at bat and basically give ourselves one swing to do something.

“Hits per swing” isn’t really a stat and I’d bet we are right in the mix with other comparable teams. We just swing way less.

He’s obviously heating up so I’m not gonna criticize him, but it feels like Curiel will automatically be down 0-2 if you throw him two strikes.

He's lost a lot of plate discipline (and confidence) from the first half of the year.

2 hole hitter should be a table setter... even if he was his normal self, it's a bizarre place to put him in the lineup.

It looks and feels like Jones is trying to mash his way out of this. He has a ton of walks on the year but I am curious to see how many he has in the last month. He needs to get back to being selective to try and work out of this.

He's not hitting the fastballs either. He is swinging for the fence every pitch. Home run or bust with all bust lately. Watch his eyes just as he is completing his swing and he is staring at the outfield. Taking his eyes off because of the hard swings.

He needs to move down in the lineup, get a single, and let the old swing come back to him before adding power.

Since the start of the Oklahoma Series he has 13 BB in 140 plate appearances. That's fricking awful.

ETA: I distinctly remember one of the color guys saying “That’s a rare walk for Bear Jones” in either the final regular season series or one of the SEC tourney games.

Opponents only recently started going at him. This is a guy who was bring pitched around a bit and still isn’t drawing walks. He’s swinging at far too many pitches, but that’s always been his MO.

Good point. Lots of the walks were earlier in the year when he was our most dangerous hitter. Teams were pitching around him . Definitely not seeing that anymore.
