It's me again, asking for help. Sorry.

If you're keeping track, I've asked for help now for Calvert, Oak Wing, and Chennault. All the tips have helped so I appreciate it.

I've got a 2 day regional, double points tournament this coming up weekend at Tamahka Trails and I've never played there and I'm not going to get to play a practice round. So any tips I could get on the course would be appreciated. The course website actually has a pretty good course map on there so I'm going to study that a little bit.

A few things to possibly help. 1) I should be playing the 1 up tees. 2) I'm on the longer side driving, 290 or so average but can pop it longer if needed. Unfortunately I won't know until that morning on the range if I'm going to be drawing the ball or fading 3) Debating on if I should carry my LW or 4H for my 14th club. Normally if it's a course with a decent amount of bunkers I go lob wedge and if I need a 225-335 distance I go 4H.

Curious on the course conditions as well. Greens in good shape? Fast?

Thanks fellas Trying to make the Ryder Cup team at the end of the season so I'll shamelessly take any help I can get.

Ok so the lob wedge over the 4H

I'm fairly decent if they are fluffy bunkers, that's what my home course is. Hate hate hate firm bunkers. Kill me now if they are firm.

-Keep it straight and watch your ball. Very easy to lose balls in the native grass.
-Greens are pretty quick, stay below the hole.
-there’s a couple of quirky holes that driver might not be best off the tee due to bunkers, fairway slope, or ditches
-don’t go pin hunting

One of our posters played yesterday. He said they were really fast.
I can't do a hole breakdown like Oakwing, as I think Tamahka, while kinda quirky, is more of a what you see is what you get. You'd probably learn more from a round there than reading the words(yeah capt. obvious) Some of the things I might type are purely subjective and others may strongly disagree. I love playing there.

Bring Deep Woods Off

Bugs rarely bother me but they are brutal at that course

can you get out there ahead of the tournament and play a round?

several somewhat blind tee shots.

the ability to work the driver both ways would really be helpful.

most of my struggles at tamahka have been due to poor play off the tee.

distance control into the greens is important. make sure you have a good number

i hit driver about the same distance as you. on several holes you could find yourself in in a bind if you don't know where the trouble is.

Curious, what hole numbers have these that are blind?

Didn't plan on making this thread because I though I was going to be able to but my office manager had a death in the family is having to leave Friday so I'm going to have to cover. Had a tee time set and everything

What holes are those? Can look at the course map on their website and maybe see what I need to play.

I have zero issue hitting my 3H off the tee. Can normally touch it out there 250-260 off the tee. My favorite club int he bag. Plenty of times I'm hitting that off the the tee and the rest of the group is hitting driver.

I'll try to remember and let you know. I only play out there maybe once a year. Maybe someone else reading this can help you. I know there is a hole or two that you can drive it through the fairway into the woods if you take the wrong line.

Holes 3, 4, 7, 12, 16 come to mind for me. For most 4 and 16 driver is too long, but more important on the approach shot than anything. Like someone else mentioned, don’t go flag hunting and stay out the native grass unless you riding around with a 4wheeler w/100gal of deet

-#3 has OB quick left that on first glance you would think is hazard.
-#5 don't go long of the green on your second shot. If you do, it's gone.
-#7 miss your drive a just a little to the right and it is bouncing downhill right and into trees. This area eats up golf balls and i have seen many balls get lost that we thought we would find for sure.
-#12 do not hit driver. I have seen a lot of great drivers hit on this hole and it always gets eaten up and ball is lost.
-#16 you need to use the area further left of middle of fairway. If not, you will most likely leave yourself a 125 yard fairway bunker shot to a tough green.

-What i learned is if you think a ball may have a chance of staying out of woods/native area, it is probably gone and you won't be able to find it. Tamahka eats up golf balls.

Don't go for the green on 7. Just hit a 4 iron off the tee and LW onto the green. The approach always seems to play short.

Hit 4 iron or hybrid off 12 tee.

Good point. I play for the very front of that one no matter where the pin is.

1) Pretty easy par 5, fade your drive, 2nd shot you don't want to miss short(bunkers) or long. Preferred right side.
2) Very short, maybe PW, or GW. Play to middle of green to avoid bunker.
3)Aim to left of fairway bunker, fade is helpful here as well. Avoid right side of green if possible.
4)Drive tee ball just short of creek, be careful of next shot because of downhill lie. Plenty room left of green.
5)Driveable par 4 with right conditions. Becareful being long on approach, or right as big terrain height difference.
6) Club selection really inportant, green is almost 30 yds deep, and it plays downhill.
7) I try to stay just short of cart path in fairway, leaves 9I into green.
8) Big green with a big false front. Long par 3, I try to play for senter of green, usually with a hybrid.
9) I aim for left edge of furthest right bunker, with a draw. Leaves short iron to a contoured green.
10) I hit a drawing tee ball to just left of bunkers, usually don't try to hit this one in 2, layup short/right, then pitch up.
11) Hit a hard, drawing tee ball, catch the downhill, have it roll out. Short iron in, but watch out for false front on green.
12) Hit fading tee ball past bunker complex, leaves downhill shot into green.
13) Fairly easy par 3, just don't hit it right of green.
14) Aim for furthest right fairway bunker with a draw, then favor left side of fairway on 2nd. Green has another massive false front.
15) Good par 3, just dont be short.
16) Signature hole, I grab a hybrid for tee ball over the bunkers, leaves 130ish to deep, narrow green. Short wont kill you here, but right & long will.
17) Another drivable par 4 if you can hit a draw. Aim to left of far right bunker, give it a good rip.
18) You want to stay to left side of fairway, to give yourself an open shot at the green. Probably easiest green to read/putt.

Played there two weeks ago. Course is in good shape and the greens were fast. If you are +290 off the box, then leave the 4H at home. It’s not a super long course but the greens are protected by lots of sand.

Maybe a different hole? Number 7 is 417yds and on the course layout on the website the description says a well laced long drive is needed here. Or did you mean leave your approach shot short and just try and get up and in for par?

You're correct. It's hole 5.
