It's time to start Zac Cowan

Here's why
-Teams have been going after Cowans change up early in counts recently. Wind will be blowing in and (Little Rock) has only hit 46 HR's all season, so this mitigates that slightly.
-The game flow should allow him to pitch more to contact and use that changeup with a much greater margin of error.
-Cowan started against LIU last year (4 seed) 6 IP 7 H 0 ER 0 BB 7 SO.
Let's face it whoever starts not named Anderson or Eyanson will be on a short leash whether it be game 1 against Little Rock or game 3 against potentially Dallas Baptist. LSU has the bullpen depth unlike in years past. Cowan will pitch to contact and eat up innings.
If LSU is can't score more than 6-8 runs against Little Rock there are much greater problems than who starts.

If Mayers continues to improve this week, maybe.

I literally was just thinking about this. I can't see it happening though.

Who would you bring out of the pen?

Cowan for Game 3? It's not a terrible idea

You're very best. It's the regionals
If up by 8-10
I'll let you go in.

I’m not sure if taking him out of the pen is the best move. You’re leaving yourself exposed of a bridge type scenario in game 2 or 3 with no one to turn to.

Here is an idea that doesn't suck but I don't think it plays out like you laid it out. Jay is pitching KA or AE in game 1 no matter what cuz thats what Jay does. We all agree that its not the best strategy but unfortuneately its our HC's MO. Just like Kelly receiving opening kickoffs.
BUT he could send AE out on Friday to get 7+, bring in Mayers, Noot, etc. to close it if he cant go the distance. I assume we'd have a decent lead at that point.
Then pitch KA in game 2 and also have him go 7+ and brig in Evans to close that game.
Then in game 3, you start Cowan and have him go as far as he can before putting in Shores, Rizy, Williams, Noot, Mayers etc. to close it out.

Mayers sure looked good Saturday. I would start Noot and bullpen Shores and Mayers after that for the 4 seed game

Are you saying if they've already burned Evans/Shores/Noot/Mayers?

Sweet, my slurve is still nasty.
I've liked the Rizy and Shores arms out of the pen lately.

He really did. If he can keep locating the strike zone, he's going to be a very good pitcher one day at the next level.
He stood out for me Saturday. I hope we can replicate that this week, and have another dependable reliever in the supers and CWS.

Since the Auburn series in fact
6.1 IP
0.704 ERA
0.79 WHIP
10K
3 BB
2H
1 ER
If he fixed Mayers it's truly one of Yeskies greatest accomplishments (Matthew Boyd notwithstanding)

It's not a bad idea but I'm sticking with Anderson or Eyanson and don't care which. In a normal year I'm usually on the side of saving your ace for game 2 but this year we have a 1A and 1B that are interchangeable. I never really think you should start anyone other than your #1 and #2 in the first 2 games though because going 2-0 is so important. I'd rather try to win game 3 with Noot, Shores, Evans and the rest vs the other teams #4 knowing you have another chance if you lose. Also in an if necessary game you can bring back your G1 starter for a bit if the game is on the line.
Also think of it like this, do you trust Noot/Cowan vs a 4 seeds ace more than you trust them vs DBU's #4? You need them to win you a game and even 4 seeds tend to have 1 really good pitcher. I'd rather Anderson/Eyanson in that one

It's a good argument on both sides.

The combo of Noot, Shores, Mayers held the Ole Miss offense to 2 runs. I like those chances against DBU in game 3.
That also allows you to go Anderson/ Evans and Eyanson/Cowan or vice versa for games 1 and 2.
All while still having bullets in the pen.

Idk, if I need them to win me a game I think I might prefer it against Little Rock.
This is fun though. I'm good with whatever. I also think if it might rain you should take that into consideration as well.

This is why I like them in game 1.

But even more so, I like those chances against a MUCH weaker hitting Little Rock.
