Seems like the guys are always taking full swings at all pitches/pitchers

Need to shorten their swings at times

Specially when we absolutely need a base runner. Swung at a 0-0 pitch the dirt. WTF?

That is what baseball has become in the last 10 years… It's all about power hitting.

A full swing should already be “short”

Agree 100%. Some are trying to hit home runs every swing. Just make contact

As chicken said above, that’s not what analytics driven baseball does. It’s all about extra base hits.
It takes 3-4 singles to score 1 run, with pitchers throwing 95+, the shift, etc that math become very unlikely. So it’s about OBP, and extra base hits. That’s why they take those massive cuts.

A single scores just as many runs as a double when you have guys on second and third. Seems like in some situations, it would be better to have a plan that will result in the highest chance of a hit. A more selective approach with an aggressive but controlled swing

It if a great avg is .300, that’s a 70% failure rate, so you’d be counting in 3 hits in an inning multiple times a game. I’m not a mathematician but those aren’t great odds.
It’s the same reason why so many 3’s are shot in basketball. Even. Though it’s a lesser percentage shot, the value is higher. You can make 10-20 2’s (50%) I only need 7-20 to beat you
