What is the taboo of a west wind while fishing in Louisiana

West winds brings muddy river water to the coastal hotspots to the east. It’s def a thing below Houma.

I thought it was “out the west, they bite the best. Out the east, they bite the least”. I really only pay attention to wind speed since I have a small boat. I’ll look at the direction if I need to find a cove or canal to get out of the wind, but as far as affecting the fish, I don’t pay attention to that.

I thought it was mostly the east winds that brought in the worst mud. At least for like Grand Isle and that area.

A Bear you are correct.
Used to fish the Tickfaw, Blood , and Natalbany. You can catch a boatload when the wind is from the west, if it’s coming out of the East it was pushing that water from Maurepas and you could forget catching anything. Maybe a couple if lucky.

I have found that’s especially true anywhere east of the river. Delacroix, Shell beach, pointe a la hache, areas east of Venice that saying applies. All of the fishing I do is east of the river.
From capt Charlie with bayou charters:
“If it’s west you stay home and rest. If it’s east it’s a feast”

West wind is definitely the worst for Grand Isle. I fish that area. West wind messes everything up.
