the series ended in 63 so i'm to young to remember when it aired and for whatever reason it wasn't that popular in syndication when i was a kid.
you could tell 7 episodes in that steve mcqueen was going to be a huge star and he was he did the magnificent 7 and the great escape while still doing the show, and deliberately sabotaged the show to get out of his contract.
the thing about this episode "the twain shall meet" is that it co stared a very young mary tyler moore and richard donner who would go on to be one of the hottest directors in hollywood, he directed the first chris reed superman, all the lethal weapon movies, conspiracy theory and scrooged.

That was an episode from 1960 and MTM was all of 23 or 24 at the time.
I grew up watching this show and then she co-starred in "The Dick Van Dyke Show" opposite DVD for several seasons.
She was a dime back then and very talented with her singing, dancing and how she and Van Dyke jelled playing a married couple.
As for Steve McQueen, he always came off as "Mr. Cool" and lived up to it in his roles and in real life. Unfortunately, cancer took him way too soon.

McQueen was super young and in the early episodes you could see his lack of polish. However his acting smoothed out as the series progressed. Especially his delivery

I still have cable. Starz old Encore Westerns channel show two episodes of Wanted: Dead or Alive every weekday at 12:40 pm. They show movies until 11:00 AM, then they have the following lineup every weekday.
11:00 Maverick
11:50 Cheyenne
12:40 Wanted: Dead or Alive
1:05 Wanted: Dead or Alive
1:30 The Virginian
2:50 The Virginian
4:10 Tales of Wells Fargo
5:00 Lawman
5:20 Lawman
5:50 Cheyenne
6:40 Cheyenne
7:30 Maverick
8:20 Maverick
9:20 the Western movies start back playing
If TCM has musicals or foreign films on during a given day, I automatically switch over to that channel to play in my background.
The Rifleman was in the rotation during 2024. I think Lawman replaced it.
