Traveling Hyw 45 south through Mississippi and noticed there are no mile markers. Crossed over into Alabama and there are mile markers. Why do some states not use them?

Other than interstates, it’s a state by state issue to have mile posts on other highways.

My favorite is the Causeway. Not only do they have markers by the mile. but they have one every tenth of a mile. So you can see several of them depending on your vision.

Yeah the causeway having every tenth is especially helpful in emergency situations. You can tell the emergency vehicles your exact location. On a tight road such as that it helps to have responders there as quickly as possible.

I like the drive through the hills on US 82 between I-55 and the Delta. Really pretty drive and a big change once you enter the flat Delta.

Because emergency responders would pass up the accident if they didn’t have the the mile markers?

Because in Ms you don’t say “I’m at mile marker 14 hwy 45 south broken down, send a tow truck”

You say “I’m right down from Brooksville near the Mennonite catfish farm bout half a mile from where the tornado hit in 2013”

Apparently your governor doesn’t have a brother in law in the mile marker sign business.

I always enjoyed running US 45 in Mississippi. The light traffic, 4 lane, and towns named Guntown, Biggersville, Scooba, Shubuta, were entertaining.
