Just as expected in Lake Charles

The mayor-elect himself is making this about race.
I took the liberty of looking up how many white mayors we have had, and it's 28. I bet if I sent it to KPLC they'd just ignore it tho. You know, black privilege and all.

The Sadvocate
When Dianna Guilbeaux Ross of Lake Charles learned that Simien would be the next mayor, she said felt like she did when former president Barack Obama won his first presidential election.
Ross said she never thought in her lifetime that she would see a Black president.
"But in the city of Lake Charles to have 30 mayors in a 250 year history, and not one of them be African American was just insane,” she said. “So, I feel blessed and fortunate to be here to see it."

Worked out great for Natchitoches, too! Believe me!
Ain’t Louisiana Great!
Lord, give us more lawyers in charge and minority mayors!
The smartest voters!

They are literally destroying us from within. When will Americans decide that we've had enough?

The demographics of the city are pretty much 50/50. It was bound to happen especially if Hunter angered his longtime supporters like y’all have said.
What’s this new mayor’s stance on law and order? Will Lake Charles go the way of Baton Rouge and New Orleans?

I just want to point out that Kip Holden was a great mayor. And black

32% turnout, that's a disgrace

Hopefully better than the new sheriff.

“It’s important that the Black community felt that their vote counted,” Simien said in his first interview with The Advocate since winning the election. “Throughout the years, since I was a little boy, a lot of people thought that even if they went out and voted that their voices weren’t being heard.
“It’s also significant to me personally that we had a significant crossover vote too,” he added. “It wasn’t just a Black mayor or a White mayor. This is a mayor for all of Lake Charles, which is consistent with the theme that we have had for this election — that we had to become one Lake Charles in order to thrive and survive.”

Compare that turnout to the other races Saturday. I believe 32% was the outlier on the high side.

What do you mean "law and order"?
The mayor has a limited influence on the chief of police, and may not even be able to appoint a new one for a bit. LCPD is still run the way the old Chief, Don Dixon ran it, where it's focused on solving crimes instead of randomly trying to prevent them. And LCPD has its faults but it's pretty good at solving those crimes, especially compared to other cities in LA.

John Couvillon, a Baton Rouge-based pollster and political analyst who closely watches elections across the state, said it’s tough to run as a Republican in the city of Lake Charles. Although Calcasieu Parish leans Republican, most of the parish’s Black residents live in the city and lean Democrat, he said.
Lake Charles will probably never have another white mayor.

Kip Holden was awesome. SWB was terrible.

He doesn't sound very independent to me. He sounds like every other Democrat.

You really think a racist pos will do better for LC than Nic has done?
My God are you guys delusional!

Marshall Simien is much more of a unicorn candidate who fell into a great opportunity with incumbent fatigue and a mayor who turned off a large portion of his base (I'm still not 100% sure how, mind you).
White people in SLC voted against Nic Hunter more than for Marshall Simien to put him over the line.
